Grooming People for Better Livelihood Centre’s 14th Annual Grooming Splash Empowers 1,346 Members with Business Support Items

The Grooming People for Better Livelihood Centre recently concluded its 14th annual Grooming Splash event, a grand initiative aimed at empowering its members with essential business support items. This year’s event, held in Lagos, saw a remarkable distribution of resources to 1,346 beneficiaries across various states, including Lagos, Oyo, Ogun, Edo, Abia, and Abuja, as well as the Federal Capital Territory. The event, according to Dr. Godwin Nwabunka, CEO of the Centre, underscores their unwavering commitment to acknowledging diligent work and bolstering the growth of small businesses, particularly those led by women. Beyond the Grooming Splash, the Centre’s dedication to women’s empowerment extends to providing educational support through scholarship schemes for their children in secondary schools, grants for undergraduate studies, and even funding for postgraduate pursuits.

The scale of this year’s Grooming Splash was significantly amplified, reflecting the Centre’s expanding reach and impact. The distribution of items was meticulously executed through a computer-generated raffle, ensuring fairness and transparency. The diverse range of business support items included 82 deep freezers, 58 5KVA generators, 58 large double-door refrigerators, 82 smaller double-door refrigerators, 106 3KVA generators, and a substantial 960 coolers of varying capacities (480 each of 150L and 110L). This strategic allocation aimed to cater to a wide array of business needs, enabling recipients to enhance their operations and boost their earning potential. The meticulous planning ensured equitable representation across the Centre’s network, with 58 winners selected from each of its 24 zones spanning 32 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

The Centre’s commitment to rewarding its members, even amidst economic challenges, was emphasized by Alexander Enyinnah, the Executive Director of Programmes. He highlighted that the increased number of prizes this year was a direct response to their expanding impact and a testament to recognizing and valuing client commitment. This sentiment was echoed by Isoken Nwabunka, the Executive Director of Administration, who reaffirmed the Centre’s core mission of empowering clients to fortify their businesses. These tools, she emphasized, are not mere giveaways but strategic investments in livelihoods, embodying the Centre’s ethos of giving back to the hardworking women within their network.

The distribution process, a crucial aspect of the event, was conducted with utmost transparency. Leveraging digital systems, the draws were carried out in real-time, ensuring an open and fair process. Louisa Chukwuemeka, the Head of Digital Operations, underscored the importance of technology in maintaining transparency and integrity. This approach allowed all participants to witness the selection process, building trust and confidence in the Centre’s commitment to equitable distribution. The real-time nature of the draws also added an element of excitement and anticipation to the event.

The impact of Grooming Splash resonated deeply with the recipients. Beatrice Olaosun, a winner of a refrigerator, expressed her gratitude, stating that the appliance would significantly enhance her ability to store perishable goods and expand her business. Eucharia Nwabuna, who received a generator, shared her initial disbelief, emphasizing the profound impact this unexpected support would have on her operations. Valentina Alozie, the recipient of the first prize, a deep freezer, described it as a welcome boost to her daily business activities. These testimonials serve as a powerful testament to the tangible difference the Grooming Splash makes in the lives and businesses of its beneficiaries.

The Grooming Splash is not an isolated event but rather a key component of the Centre’s broader, sustained efforts to empower micro-entrepreneurs nationwide. By providing direct interventions like these business support items, the Centre contributes significantly to improving household incomes and fostering economic growth at the grassroots level. This initiative, conducted annually, epitomizes their ongoing commitment to supporting micro-enterprises, particularly those led by women, and equipping them with the necessary tools to thrive in a competitive marketplace. Through such initiatives, the Grooming People for Better Livelihood Centre continues to play a pivotal role in fostering economic empowerment and driving positive change within communities.
