During Nigeria’s 64th Independence anniversary, Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State addressed the pressing issues of rising inflation, unemployment, and the soaring cost of living that have impacted many Nigerians. He characterized these challenges as not only significant but also urgent, calling upon all citizens to participate actively in building a stronger and more prosperous nation. Emphasizing the need for collective action, Abiodun highlighted that the responsibility of overcoming these economic hurdles does not rest solely on the government but requires the commitment and support of the populace.

Governor Abiodun acknowledged that while Nigeria is currently facing turbulent economic conditions exacerbated by global and domestic challenges, these issues are surmountable with the cooperation of its citizens. He stressed that the present administration, under President Bola Tinubu, is fully cognizant of these hardships and is initiating efforts to reverse the negative economic trajectory. The governor assured citizens that there is a sincere commitment from the federal government to create a brighter future, aligning the aspirations of the administration with the needs of the populace to foster governance that prioritizes their welfare.

In urging citizens to unite and support one another during these difficult times, Abiodun encouraged a recommitment to collective sacrifice and patience to navigate the complexities of economic recovery. He underscored that the economic policies proposed by the federal government are intended to deliver long-term stability while calling on Nigerians to hold true to foundational values such as hard work, honesty, and justice. On the occasion of Independence Day, he prompted citizens to reflect on the sacrifices of Nigeria’s founding fathers, using this day not just for celebration but for a renewed commitment to national progress.

Reflecting on Nigeria’s accomplishments over the past 64 years, Abiodun celebrated the nation as a symbol of strength and resilience within the African continent. He acknowledged the significant strides made by his administration in critical sectors like agriculture, energy, and transportation. These initiatives are aimed at enhancing food security, creating jobs, and fostering the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises, which form the backbone of Ogun State’s economy. The governor emphasized that efforts to empower youth through educational infrastructure and vocational training are essential to equip the next generation, providing them with the necessary skills to excel in a challenging economic environment.

As a further demonstration of the administration’s commitment to tackling economic issues, Abiodun announced that Gateway Trading Company would soon be offering a range of food items at wholesale prices aimed at benefiting citizens across Ogun State’s four zones. He stressed that this initiative forms part of broader strategies under the “Building Our Future Together” agenda, which is focused on economic revitalization, community upliftment, and fostering peace and progress in Ogun State and Nigeria as a whole.

The Independence Day celebration was attended by various dignitaries, including the State Deputy Governor, members of the National and State Assembly, former governors and top government officials. All were brought together under the shared vision of collaboration and commitment to overcoming the current economic challenges facing Nigeria. Governor Abiodun concluded his address with a call for unity and resilience, urging the citizens to hold fast to hope in the pursuit of a prosperous future for the nation.
