Addressing Infrastructure Concerns in Mowe and Magboro Communities: Ogun State Governor’s Commitment to Road Rehabilitation

The Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has reaffirmed his commitment to completing the ongoing road rehabilitation projects in Mowe and Magboro communities within Obafemi Owode Local Government Area. This pledge comes in response to concerns raised by residents of the Adesan-Olu Community in Mowe, who appealed to the governor to expedite the completion of the 3.5-kilometer road repair in their area. The governor had previously approved the rehabilitation of this road, which the community highlighted had been in a state of disrepair for an extended period.

The Adesan-Olu Community, in an open letter addressed to Governor Abiodun, expressed their gratitude for his administration’s focus on infrastructural development and commended his leadership in prioritizing projects that enhance the quality of life for residents. While acknowledging the positive impact of the initiated road construction, the community voiced concerns about the perceived slow pace of work, particularly in light of the approaching rainy season. They emphasized the worsening road conditions due to the rain and urged the governor to intervene.

The letter, titled "Appreciation letter from the entire Adesan-Olu Community of Mowe, Ogun State," specifically highlighted the positive impact of the ongoing construction of the 3.5km road. The community acknowledged the commencement of asphalt laying, a significant step towards improving their local infrastructure. However, they also pointed out the challenges posed by the rainy season, noting that the pace of construction had significantly slowed, leading to muddy and difficult-to-navigate roads. This concern underscored their appeal to the governor for expedited completion of the project.

The letter was jointly signed by prominent community leaders, including Alhaji Bamidele Nasiru, the Community Development Committee Grand Patron in Obafemi Owode Local Government; Alhaji Morenigbade Moshood, a community leader in Adesan-Olu; and Gafar Adeyemi, another community leader. Their collective endorsement of the letter emphasized the community’s unified voice in expressing their concerns and requesting the governor’s intervention to ensure timely completion of the road rehabilitation project.

Responding to the community’s concerns, Kayode Akinmade, Special Adviser to the Governor on Communication and Strategy, reassured the residents of the government’s commitment to completing the road projects. He urged patience, emphasizing the administrative processes involved in project execution, including the certification and verification required for the release of funds to contractors. Akinmade highlighted that budgetary allocations for 2024 remain available and that various factors can influence the pace of construction work, urging residents not to be alarmed by temporary slowdowns.

Akinmade further explained the staged nature of project funding, noting that contractors receive payments based on completed phases of work. This process, he explained, necessitates verification and certification to ensure that funds are disbursed appropriately for work completed. He reiterated the government’s commitment to completing the road rehabilitation projects in both Mowe and Magboro, emphasizing that work on the Magboro road is also actively progressing. His response aimed to alleviate the residents’ concerns and assure them of the government’s ongoing efforts to improve their local infrastructure.
