The Accra Academy Senior High School administration has responded to a disturbing video circulating on social media depicting a student wielding a cutlass and flogging another student. The incident, which occurred on January 17, 2024, regrettably went unreported to the school authorities until its exposure online. The school’s management, upon learning of the incident, swiftly initiated an investigation, identifying all students involved and contacting their parents. The student responsible for wielding the cutlass has been handed over to law enforcement authorities for further interrogation.

In the wake of this incident, the school has taken decisive action by temporarily suspending all students implicated in the altercation. These students, all of whom are day students, have been instructed to remain off-campus pending the outcome of a thorough investigation. The individuals involved have been identified as Shadad Aliu (alias Kester, IVA 1), Haleem Jibril (alias Chopper, 3Bus 5), Ahmed Dauda (alias Foreigner, 3GA 5), and Richard Ninsin (alias Poisonous, 3GA 5) as the perpetrators. The victims of the assault are Samuel Ussher (1Sc 10), Kingsford Quayson (1Sc 10), Stephen Oteng (1Sc 10), and Dominic Awuku Adjei (1GA 2).

Initial findings from the school’s preliminary investigation reveal that the cutlass used in the assault was brought from home by one of the perpetrators, and not obtained from the school premises. This crucial detail helps clarify the source of the weapon and potentially alleviates concerns about the security of weapons within the school environment. The investigation is ongoing, being spearheaded by the school’s disciplinary committee. The committee is committed to a comprehensive inquiry, examining all aspects of the incident, including the motive, the sequence of events, and the roles played by each individual involved.

The school management has assured parents and guardians that they are treating this matter with the utmost seriousness. They recognize the gravity of the situation and the potential impact on the safety and well-being of all students. They are committed to ensuring a prompt and effective resolution, emphasizing that the appropriate disciplinary measures will be taken based on the findings of the investigation. This commitment to swift and decisive action underscores the school’s dedication to maintaining a safe and disciplined learning environment for all students.

The school’s commitment to transparency is evident in their promise to keep all stakeholders informed of the investigation’s progress and outcome. This includes parents, guardians, students, and the wider community. By maintaining open communication, the school aims to build trust and ensure that everyone is aware of the steps being taken to address the situation and prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future. This transparency will also contribute to fostering a sense of accountability and shared responsibility within the school community.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and proactive measures in maintaining a safe and secure school environment. It highlights the need for clear communication channels between students, teachers, and administrators so that potential issues can be identified and addressed promptly. The school’s response, including the ongoing investigation and the commitment to transparency, signifies their dedication to learning from this incident and strengthening their existing systems to ensure the safety and well-being of all students attending Accra Academy Senior High School.
