The Osun State Government has unequivocally affirmed its unwavering confidence in Deputy Governor Kola Adewusi, dismissing allegations of anti-party activities as a mere “family dispute” that will not impact his position. Publicly addressing the controversy surrounding the Ife Federal Constituency, the government emphasized the unwavering loyalty and commitment of both the Deputy Governor and Professor Wale Oladipo, a former National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to the current administration. Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, released a statement asserting that the ongoing internal party discussions will not undermine Adewusi’s role as second-in-command. The government categorically refuted any suggestion of a rift between Governor Ademola Adeleke and his deputy, emphasizing the continued strong working relationship and mutual respect within the administration.

The controversy arose from a vote of no confidence passed against Adewusi, Oladipo, and the PDP chairman of Ife East Local Government, Olasunkanmi Makinde, by party leaders in the Ife Federal Constituency. The accusations centered on alleged fraternization with Mr. Bimbo Ajilesoro, a lawmaker representing the constituency who recently defected from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC). The list of 39 party leaders who signed the communique against the deputy governor and others included two state cabinet members: Biyi Odunlade, Commissioner for Political Affairs, and Dipo Eluwole, Commissioner for Education. This internal dissent within the PDP fueled speculation about the stability of the state government and the relationship between key figures.

Despite the internal party disagreement, the Osun State Government maintains that Adewusi’s position remains secure and that the allegations against him will not affect his duties as Deputy Governor. The statement released by the Commissioner for Information sought to allay public concerns and project an image of unity and stability within the government. It reiterated the governor’s continued trust in Adewusi and his commitment to working together for the betterment of Osun State. Furthermore, the statement emphasized that Oladipo’s roles as a member of the PDP Board of Trustees and Chairman of the Osun State University Governing Council remain unaffected, reinforcing the government’s confidence in his loyalty and contributions.

The Osun State PDP Chairman, Sunday Bisi, has intervened in the dispute, calling for a cessation of hostilities and assuring all parties that the matter will be resolved internally. Bisi’s intervention signals the party’s commitment to containing the conflict and preventing further escalation. This internal mediation aims to address the concerns raised by party leaders while maintaining party unity and focusing on the broader goals of the administration. The government’s statement commended the PDP leadership’s swift response and its commitment to peaceful dialogue, underscoring the importance of resolving the impasse through internal mechanisms.

The government’s emphasis on peaceful resolution and internal dialogue reflects a strategic approach to managing the crisis. By framing the disagreement as a “family dispute,” the government seeks to downplay its significance and prevent it from escalating into a larger political conflict. This approach aims to maintain public confidence in the administration and demonstrate a commitment to stability and unity. The call for calm and restraint further reinforces this message, urging all parties to prioritize dialogue and collaboration over public confrontation.

The government’s proactive response to the allegations against the Deputy Governor and other party members demonstrates a clear strategy to manage the political fallout and maintain a sense of stability. By publicly reaffirming confidence in both Adewusi and Oladipo, the government aims to quell speculation about internal divisions and project an image of unity and strength. The emphasis on internal party mechanisms for resolving the dispute reinforces the message that the situation is under control and will be addressed appropriately within the existing party structure. The government’s appeal for calm and restraint underscores the commitment to a peaceful resolution and a focus on the broader goals of serving the people of Osun State.
