The Food Industrial Park Limited (FIPL), a Nigerian agro-allied firm, has embarked on a significant venture to bolster the nation’s essential oils production and create widespread employment opportunities. This ambitious project is being undertaken in partnership with Best Engineering Technologies, an Indian firm based in Hyderabad, which has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with FIPL to offtake the produced essential oils. This partnership aims to produce a substantial 500 tonnes of essential oils annually, derived from a variety of plants cultivated across multiple states within Nigeria. This undertaking not only represents a significant economic boost but also underscores the growing synergy between Nigerian and international entities in fostering agricultural development and value-added processing.
The collaboration between FIPL and Best Engineering Technologies is the culmination of strategic alliances and collaborative efforts involving various indigenous Nigerian companies. This network includes farmers, processors, and technical professionals, each playing a crucial role in the project’s success. The initiative will leverage the cultivation of aromatic plants and crops across a vast 3,000 hectares of land spanning three states: Ogun, Oyo, and Kogi. This expansive cultivation plan underscores the commitment to sustainable and large-scale production, creating a robust supply chain for essential oils. Moreover, the project is poised to generate significant employment, engaging 1,250 youths and women across the value chain, with projected annual earnings exceeding N1 million for each participant. The cultivation of aromatic plants and crops will focus on key species including lemongrass, basil, thyme, ginger, and turmeric, all of which possess valuable properties for essential oil extraction. These selected crops are not only well-suited to the Nigerian climate but also hold significant market demand, ensuring the viability and profitability of the venture. Preliminary work for this extensive project has already commenced at designated locations, including the Food Industrial Park Abeokuta, Tede Agri Industrial Cluster, and Food Industrial Park Lokoja. These strategically chosen locations provide the necessary infrastructure and resources to facilitate efficient cultivation, processing, and distribution of the essential oils.
