In recent comments, Francis Asenso-Boakye, the Minister of Roads and Highways, highlighted the significant advancements made in Ghana’s road infrastructure under the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia administration. He showcased the government’s proud achievement of completing nine interchanges, with funding secured for over 16 additional projects currently underway. Speaking on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo morning show, Asenso-Boakye underscored the administration’s unwavering commitment to enhancing road networks across the country. He reassured citizens that ongoing projects are fully financed, promising their completion aims to alleviate traffic congestion and improve overall commuting experiences for Ghanaians.

Asenso-Boakye took the opportunity to assert that the current government’s accomplishments in road construction surpass those of the previous Mahama administration. He pointed out that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has successfully constructed 13,624 kilometers of roads nationwide, making a direct comparison with the work done by the National Democratic Congress (NDC). By delineating specific regional achievements, the Minister illustrated the extent of the NPP’s infrastructure rollout, especially in the Ashanti Region, which boasts the largest road network in Ghana.

In his detailed analysis, Asenso-Boakye presented impressive statistics demonstrating significant increases in road construction across various regions. For example, the NPP constructed 2,126 kilometers of roads in the Ashanti Region, marking a 172% increase from the NDC’s 781 kilometers. The Western Region saw an increase from 567 kilometers under the NDC to 758 kilometers constructed by the NPP, which translates into a 34% increase. Similarly, the Bono Region experienced substantial improvement with the NPP completing 509 kilometers compared to the NDC’s 151 kilometers, reflecting a remarkable 228% increase. These statistics illustrated a trend of enhanced infrastructural development under the current administration.

The Minister further highlighted other regions where notable improvements had been made. For instance, the Northern Region saw an impressive escalation from 333 kilometers during the NDC era to 1,323 kilometers under the NPP, marking a staggering 295% increase. In the Savannah Region, which is notably President Mahama’s home region, the NPP achieved 463 kilometers of roadwork as opposed to the NDC’s 203 kilometers, showing a 128% jump. Similar increases were cited in North East and Western North, indicating consistent progress across various regions, demonstrating the NPP’s extensive impact on road infrastructure.

Asenso-Boakye, who is also the Member of Parliament for the Bantama constituency, stressed that the government’s focus on infrastructure development extends beyond mere statistics; it reflects the administration’s holistic approach to enhancing the country’s transport framework. He noted that the completed interchanges since the beginning of the Akufo-Addo administration far exceed the number completed during the tenures of previous administrations, emphasizing the NPP’s commitment to delivering on its promises to improve transportation systems.

Overall, the Minister’s remarks encapsulated the ambitious vision of the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia administration in transforming Ghana’s road infrastructure landscape. With ongoing projects that promise to further ease traffic and foster connectivity, Asenso-Boakye reaffirmed the government’s pledge to prioritizing infrastructural development. By building on successes already achieved, the current administration is dedicated to ensuring that all Ghanaians benefit from improved roads, thereby bolstering the nation’s overall growth and mobility.
