President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has expressed strong confidence in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) prospects for victory in the upcoming general election on December 7. In a recent interview with ‘France 24’, he highlighted the achievements of his government over the past eight years, emphasizing that these accomplishments would resonate with voters. President Akufo-Addo articulated his belief that the NPP has created a substantial legacy across various sectors of the economy, and he is optimistic that the Party’s Presidential Candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, will build on this foundation if elected.

The President pointed out significant initiatives launched by his administration, particularly in the education sector, where the ‘Free Senior High School (SHS)’ Programme has benefitted nearly five million students since its launch in 2017. In healthcare, the government has taken notable actions, including distributing 307 ambulances to all constituencies and initiating Agenda 111, a project aimed at constructing over 100 hospitals to enhance healthcare delivery across the country. These efforts, according to Akufo-Addo, exemplify the government’s focus on pivotal areas that directly affect citizens’ everyday lives.

Furthermore, he indicated that other transformative programs such as ‘One District, One Factory (1D1F)’ and ‘Planting for Food and Jobs,’ along with significant advancements in road infrastructure and digitalization, have resonated with the populace. He mentioned that the government has successfully created approximately 2.1 million jobs during his tenure, with 1.2 million jobs generated in the public sector and 975,000 in the private sector. These developments, he believes, equip the NPP with a robust platform leading into the elections, highlighting their achievements across essential sectors of the economy.

President Akufo-Addo expressed confidence in Dr. Bawumia’s campaign strategy, which he noted is particularly appealing to younger voters. He emphasized the importance of Bawumia’s capable leadership and the favorable record of the current administration as pivotal factors likely to influence the election results. The President underscored that these elements play a significant role in shaping his optimism about a successful outcome for the NPP in the upcoming vote.

In addressing concerns raised by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) regarding the legitimacy of the voters’ register ahead of the Presidential and Parliamentary elections, President Akufo-Addo reassured that these matters have been adequately resolved. He praised the Electoral Commission (EC) for conducting extensive hearings aimed at ensuring a transparent electoral process. This assurance appears to have calmed previous apprehensions, as the opposition party has indicated a willingness to adhere to the EC’s outlined process, reflecting a commitment to electoral integrity.

Lastly, the President reaffirmed Ghana’s dedication to fostering its democratic principles and maintaining its status as a model for good governance in sub-Saharan Africa. He highlighted that the political stability observed in Ghana results from ongoing dialogues and consultations, which have garnered acceptance from both the populace and political elites. This ongoing engagement is viewed as a stabilizing factor for the nation’s political landscape, reinforcing the notion that a transparent and accountable process will pave the way for sustained democratic governance in the future. Thus, the confidence expressed by President Akufo-Addo creates an optimistic outlook for the NPP as it approaches the elections.
