The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State has initiated a strategic move to bolster its grassroots presence ahead of the 2027 general elections. The party inaugurated its Women Wing and Elders Council of Women, signaling a focused effort to engage and mobilize women voters, a demographic considered crucial for electoral success. The inauguration ceremony, held at the Done Event Centre, was attended by key party figures, including the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Chief Uche Geoffrey Nnaji, who delivered a powerful message of hope and empowerment to the assembled women. Nnaji emphasized the pivotal role women play in societal transformation, highlighting their influence within families, communities, and the nation as a whole. He urged the women to remain committed to the APC’s vision and to carry forward the torch of progress.

Nnaji underscored the significance of the inauguration, portraying it as a testament to the party’s determination to secure victory in the upcoming elections. He praised the courage and resilience of the Enugu APC women, emphasizing their contribution to building a brighter future. Furthermore, the minister commended President Bola Tinubu’s leadership, particularly his Renewed Hope Agenda, which places women at the forefront of Nigeria’s transformation. He emphasized the importance of unity, justice, and service, urging the women to view their current sacrifices as investments in future victories. Nnaji framed the inauguration as a strategic step towards building a robust grassroots network, recognizing the dominance of women within this sphere.

The focus on grassroots mobilization highlights the APC’s strategy to connect directly with voters, empowering women to lead initiatives within their communities. Nnaji indicated plans to inaugurate a Youth Wing, further extending the party’s reach at the grassroots level. This approach underscores a commitment to fair elections, rejecting electoral malpractice and emphasizing the importance of delivering capable leaders who can address the needs of the people. Nnaji criticized the current administration’s performance, citing alleged scandals and highlighting the suffering experienced by the people of Enugu State. He expressed the desire for a change in leadership that would bring about tangible improvements in governance and service delivery.

Chief Emma Eneukwu, the Deputy National Chairman (South), echoed Nnaji’s sentiments, highlighting the significance of women’s votes at the grassroots level. He described the inaugurated women as stakeholders who form a powerful network capable of influencing a substantial number of voters. This network, Eneukwu explained, extends the party’s reach deep into communities, ensuring that the APC’s message resonates with a wider audience. The meticulous selection of these women leaders ensures effective dissemination of information and mobilization of voters at the grassroots. This strategy emphasizes the importance of educating and empowering women to become active participants in the political process.

The National Woman Leader, Mary Alile, declared Enugu State as the pioneering state in Nigeria to successfully inaugurate its APC Women Wing, marking a significant milestone for the party. She urged the women to actively promote President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda within their communities, ensuring his re-election in 2027 to continue the ongoing transformation. Alile’s message underscores the importance of translating the party’s national agenda into tangible actions at the local level, effectively bridging the gap between national policy and grassroots implementation. This strategic approach aims to secure broad-based support for the party and its leadership.

Ugochukwu Agballah, the State Chairman of the APC, expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for his leadership and the national leadership for their guidance, which contributed to the successful inauguration. Agballah described the event as historic for the APC in Nigeria and acknowledged Nnaji’s financial contribution to the initiative. This collective effort underscores the party’s commitment to strengthening its organizational structure and mobilizing its base in preparation for the 2027 elections. The inauguration of the Women Wing signifies a significant step towards achieving this goal, positioning women as key players in the APC’s electoral strategy.
