The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has issued a stark warning to Professor Obiora Okonkwo, a prominent aspirant within the All Progressives Congress (APC), urging him to abandon his gubernatorial ambitions in Anambra State. Okonkwo, who has publicly declared his intention to unseat the incumbent governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has repeatedly asserted his capability to lead the state, particularly during the inauguration of the new APC secretariat in Awka. However, APGA, through its National Coordinator of the Media Warriors Forum, Chinedu Obigwe, has dismissed Okonkwo’s pronouncements as mere bluster, asserting that Soludo’s re-election is virtually assured.
Obigwe’s statement, released to the press, characterized Okonkwo’s pronouncements as an attempt to elevate himself to Soludo’s level, a comparison APGA deems unwarranted. The statement argues that Okonkwo lacks the political acumen and popular support to pose a credible challenge to Soludo. APGA expressed confidence in Soludo’s resounding victory in the upcoming November 8th governorship election, regardless of whether Okonkwo secures the APC ticket or chooses to contest under a different party banner. The party pointed to Okonkwo’s past electoral defeats as evidence of his political ineffectiveness, suggesting a pattern of flawed political strategy.
APGA further challenged Okonkwo’s call for a public debate with Governor Soludo, suggesting he first focus on securing his party’s nomination. Obigwe argued that Okonkwo does not currently merit Soludo’s attention, as the governor is preoccupied with delivering on his promises to the people of Anambra. The statement highlighted Soludo’s focus on governance and his commitment to improving the lives of Anambra citizens.
The APGA statement emphasized the perceived positive impact of Soludo’s administration, contending that the majority of Anambra residents recognize and appreciate his efforts. The party countered criticisms of Soludo’s performance, labeling them as deliberate falsehoods propagated by opposition figures like Okonkwo. APGA specifically addressed the issue of insecurity, a frequent point of contention for the opposition, claiming that Soludo’s “Operation Udo Ga-achi” has effectively addressed the problem.
APGA concluded its statement with a strong endorsement of Soludo’s leadership, portraying him as a deserving candidate for re-election. The party framed Soludo’s second term as a reward for his commendable performance and a testament to the confidence the people of Anambra have placed in him. This unwavering support for Soludo underscores APGA’s belief in his continued leadership and their conviction that his track record warrants another term in office.
APGA’s assertive response to Okonkwo’s challenge indicates the party’s confidence in Soludo’s standing and their perception of Okonkwo as a non-threatening contender. The statement strategically highlights Soludo’s accomplishments while simultaneously downplaying Okonkwo’s political viability. By framing Okonkwo’s pronouncements as desperate attempts to gain recognition, APGA aims to solidify Soludo’s image as the preferred leader for Anambra State. The party’s emphasis on Soludo’s focus on governance and the purported positive outcomes of his administration further reinforces their message of continued progress under his leadership.
