The Kano State Police Command, under the leadership of Commissioner Salman Garba, has demonstrated swift action and effectiveness in apprehending criminals involved in high-profile cases. One notable success involved the swift dismantling of a three-man kidnapping and murder ring responsible for the death of Atiku Muazu, a former Permanent Secretary from Gombe State. The crime, which shocked the community, prompted an immediate and intensive investigation by the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit. Leveraging intelligence networks and meticulous follow-up, the police tracked down and arrested the perpetrators within 24 hours of receiving the official report. This rapid response underscores the Command’s commitment to swiftly addressing serious crimes and ensuring public safety.
The investigation revealed the intricate details of the heinous act. The principal suspect, Abubakar Hassan, known as “Captain,” orchestrated the kidnapping by deceiving the victim under the guise of retrieving a car from a mechanic in Kazaure LGA, Jigawa State. Instead, Hassan led Muazu to Ringim LGA, where he, along with four accomplices including the mechanic, held him captive. Tragically, despite receiving a ransom of N2,000,000, the kidnappers murdered Muazu. The police arrested Hassan, along with Adamu Abubakar Adam, who received the ransom, and Hamisu, also known as Bakin Bross, whose house served as the victim’s prison for three days. A toy gun with six rubber bullets, likely used to intimidate the victim, was recovered from Hassan. The thorough investigation pieced together the events leading to Muazu’s death and secured crucial evidence for prosecution. The suspects are currently in custody at the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department, Anti-Kidnapping Unit, awaiting trial.
Beyond the Muazu case, the Kano Police Command has been actively combating other forms of crime. On January 26, 2025, a group of armed men on motorcycles attacked the residence of Alhaji Auwalu in Sabuwar Unguwa Garo, Kabo LGA. They stole N8,000,000 and kidnapped his 16-year-old daughter, Zainab Aliyu. The police have initiated a comprehensive operation to rescue Zainab and bring the perpetrators to justice. This incident highlights the ongoing challenges posed by armed gangs, and the police response demonstrates their dedication to pursuing these criminals relentlessly.
Further demonstrating their commitment to public safety, the Kano Police Command conducted a successful operation against a group of 17 suspected armed robbers who terrorized the Hotoro and Kawu Quarters areas. These criminals engaged in widespread theft, breaking into shops and vehicles, and assaulting innocent citizens. The police intervention resulted in the apprehension of all 17 suspects, disrupting their criminal activities and recovering stolen goods. This operation underscores the effectiveness of intelligence-led policing in targeting and neutralizing organized criminal groups. In another incident, three additional suspects were arrested for robbing two individuals of 200 mobile phones in Yankatsari Quarters. The recovery of seven mobile phones and dangerous weapons further strengthens the case against them.
The Kano State Police Command’s proactive approach to crime prevention has been further emphasized by Commissioner Garba’s call for public vigilance. Recognizing that community involvement is crucial to maintaining security, he urged citizens to be observant and report any suspicious behavior or individuals to the nearest police station. This emphasis on community policing reinforces the partnership between law enforcement and the public, creating a shared responsibility for safety and security. The Commissioner’s proactive communication also underscores the Command’s commitment to transparency and building trust with the community it serves.
In summary, the Kano State Police Command, under Commissioner Salman Garba’s leadership, has shown a strong commitment to tackling crime through swift response, thorough investigations, and proactive community engagement. The successful resolution of the Atiku Muazu kidnapping and murder case, the ongoing efforts to rescue Zainab Aliyu, and the arrests of multiple armed robbery suspects demonstrate the Command’s effectiveness. The emphasis on intelligence-led operations, coupled with public awareness campaigns, highlights a comprehensive strategy aimed at ensuring public safety and maintaining peace within Kano State. The Commissioner’s consistent communication with the public further reinforces the commitment to transparency and building a strong partnership between law enforcement and the community. These efforts demonstrate a dedication to protecting citizens and holding criminals accountable for their actions.
