Paul Chukwuma, an aspirant for the governorship of Anambra State under the All Progressives Congress (APC), has outlined his security strategy centered around community policing as a key component of his campaign platform. Chukwuma, who submitted his nomination and expression of interest forms at the APC national secretariat in Abuja, emphasized the urgent need to address the escalating security challenges plaguing the state. He criticized the current administration’s approach, arguing that the existing security measures are inadequate and ineffective in combating the rising tide of kidnappings and other criminal activities. He underscored the importance of empowering local communities to play a more active role in safeguarding their environments.

Chukwuma’s proposed community policing model hinges on the belief that local residents are best positioned to identify suspicious individuals and activities within their neighborhoods. He lamented the decline of the traditional vigilante system in Anambra State and criticized the current government’s handling of the Anambra Homeland Security outfit, alleging that its employees often go unpaid. He argued that the involvement of local communities in security efforts would be far more effective in identifying and deterring criminal elements, particularly those who may be from outside the state.

A crucial element of Chukwuma’s security plan involves a substantial investment in intelligence gathering at the grassroots level. He stressed that Anambra’s relatively small landmass makes it feasible to implement a comprehensive intelligence network that can effectively monitor and report suspicious activities. He believes that this approach would be far more impactful than the current security strategies, which he perceives as lacking focus and failing to address the root causes of the state’s security woes. This proactive intelligence-driven approach, according to him, would provide early warning signs of potential threats and enable swift responses to prevent criminal acts.

Furthermore, Chukwuma envisions a technologically advanced security infrastructure. He plans to implement a comprehensive mapping of streets and currently deserted camps throughout Anambra State. This mapping initiative, combined with robust intelligence gathering, would provide a detailed overview of the state’s security landscape, enabling more effective deployment of resources and targeted interventions. He believes this approach will be crucial in addressing the current security challenges and restoring peace and stability to the state.

Beyond security, Chukwuma also addressed the issue of zoning within the APC. He urged the party to maintain a level playing field for all aspirants, regardless of their senatorial zone. He argued against the imposition of zoning arrangements, emphasizing that the most qualified candidate should be chosen to represent the party in the upcoming governorship election. This, he believes, will ensure a fair and transparent process that prioritizes competence and experience over regional considerations.

In summary, Chukwuma’s campaign platform centers on a multifaceted approach to security, with community policing at its core. He emphasizes the need for local involvement, robust intelligence gathering, and technological advancements to combat crime effectively. He also advocates for a fair and transparent selection process within the APC, urging the party to prioritize merit over zoning considerations. His overall aim, he states, is to restore peace and security to Anambra State and create an environment conducive to economic growth and development. He believes his proposed policies offer a more effective and sustainable solution to the state’s current security challenges.
