During a recent visit by Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Omanhene of the Banda Traditional Council, Nana Sekyemme Sinapem II, expressed gratitude to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for initiating significant development projects in the Banda Constituency. This region has traditionally backed the National Democratic Congress (NDC), but Nana Sekyemme conveyed how the community’s historical struggles under previous NDC governments led to a newfound appreciation for the NPP’s contributions, particularly noting the challenges faced in bringing the Bui Power Project to fruition. He recounted how their appeals for the power project were dismissed by government officials who suggested alternative agricultural pursuits instead.

Nana Sekyemme invoked the legacy of past leadership, particularly President John Kufuor’s administration, underscoring how it marked a turning point for Banda with the actual realization of the Bui Power Project—something the community had long sought. He highlighted that under Kufuor’s leadership, the NPP made significant infrastructure improvements, including road developments, which enhanced accessibility and connectivity for the community. This involvement from the NPP contrasted sharply with the prior inaction experienced under the NDC, reinforcing the Omanhene’s appreciation for the party’s efforts.

Beyond infrastructural projects, Nana Sekyemme reflected on the NPP’s commitment to boosting local industries, mentioning the establishment of cashew and sugar cane processing factories. These initiatives are pivotal in promoting economic development within the region. He urged Dr. Bawumia to prioritize the completion of ongoing road projects to facilitate further growth. The Omanhene highlighted the importance of these developments to the sustained prosperity of the community, indicating that they are essential for attracting further investment and improving the quality of life for residents.

Moreover, the Omanhene advocated for Banda to be included in the government’s Agenda 111 project, which is aimed at enhancing healthcare access across the nation. He emphasized the need for better healthcare facilities in Banda, recognizing that improved healthcare infrastructure would be critical in addressing the community’s health challenges. Nana Sinapem II’s call to action for better healthcare services illustrates the pressing need for comprehensive community support mechanisms, which align with the NPP’s development goals.

In an acknowledgment of the political landscape, Nana Sekyemme offered his support for the NPP in the upcoming 2024 elections, signifying a shift in the constituency’s allegiance toward the party that has shown tangible commitment to development. His declaration of support was backed by an expressed confidence in the NPP’s ongoing dedication to uplifting the Banda community through continued development initiatives. This shift reflects a broader trend as communities evaluate the effectiveness of political promises over party allegiance.

Dr. Bawumia expressed gratitude toward the traditional council for their endorsement and reiterated the NPP’s commitment to fulfilling its developmental promises. He assured the community that the NPP would remain dedicated to executing projects and addressing the concerns highlighted by the Omanhene. This interaction not only strengthened the bond between the party and the community but also served as a reminder of the influence of traditional leadership in the political arena, underscoring the importance of effective governance in achieving developmental goals.
