The Bono Regional Youth Wing of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has expressed its dedication to revamping agriculture and enhancing the socio-economic conditions of farmers if they reclaim power in the upcoming December 7, 2024 elections. Mr. Mustapha Omar Copson, the Deputy Bono Regional Youth Organiser, noted that the party has developed pragmatic strategies to implement the policies and programs outlined in its Election 2024 manifesto. His comments followed a three-day retail campaign tour aimed at engaging with various communities in the Dormaa Municipality and the Dormaa West District. The campaign focused on informing local associations and artisanal workers about the content of the NDC manifesto, thereby empowering them to make educated electoral choices that would favor the party’s flagbearer, former President John Dramani Mahama.

During the campaign, Mr. Copson led executive members through several key locations, including Krakrom and Nkrankwanta, where they interacted with local artisans such as hairdressers and mechanics in Dormaa-Ahenkro. The primary goal of the campaign was to raise awareness of the NDC’s policies and the importance of supporting Mahama and the party’s vision for modernized agriculture as a pillar for national development. He emphasized that an NDC-led government would significantly prioritize agriculture, establishing farmers’ centers and agro-industrial zones to enable farmers access to modern equipment. This initiative aims to boost commercial farming, enhance productivity, and ultimately improve the socio-economic lives of farmers and food security in Ghana.

Furthermore, Mr. Copson assured that an NDC administration would address infrastructural challenges, particularly by completing the long-abandoned Nkrankwanta-Krakrom-Adukrom road. This upgrade is intended to facilitate easier movement for cocoa farmers, thereby promoting economic activities within the cocoa sector. He elaborated that the cocoa industry would also receive reformed incentives, which would motivate farmers to expand their cocoa farms, thus elevating the sector’s appeal and supporting rural development.

In a parallel discussion, Mr. Richard Nkwanayana, a committee member of the Bono Regional NDC Youth Wing, reminded constituents in Dormaa West to not only cast votes for former President Mahama but also support the current Member of Parliament, Mr. Vincent Oppong Asamoah, for retention in office. He stressed the importance of the electorate participating actively in the parliamentary segment of the elections to help the NDC maintain and possibly gain parliamentary seats, which are crucial for the party’s overall political strategy.

Mr. Nkwanayana explained that the youth wing’s campaign efforts had intensified, with a focus on explaining the party’s proposed 24-hour economy along with the introduction of women’s banks and other significant policies to the grassroots. This initiative is part of a wider effort to ensure that voters understand the NDC’s commitments and plans for national progress, particularly concerning economic empowerment and social equity.

The campaign team also included prominent members such as Mr. Samuel Wuaku, President of the NDC Pro-Forum; Mrs. Freda Ohene Addo, a working committee member of the youth wing; and regional youth organizers from various constituencies. Collectively, the team aimed to strengthen the party’s appeal and re-engage the electorate in preparation for the forthcoming elections. Their concerted efforts reflect the NDC’s determination to create a better future for Ghanaians, particularly through enhanced agricultural practices and community development.
