The Nigeria Boxing Board of Control (NBBofC), in partnership with Balmoral Group, has initiated a significant three-day training program aimed at boxing referees and judges at the Brai Ayanote Boxing Gym situated in the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos. This training course, which commenced on November 5 and is set to conclude on November 7, features Rogers Barnor, an esteemed Ghanaian boxing official with over 30 years of global officiating experience, as the primary instructor. The training’s funding is fully covered by Balmoral Group of Promotions, under the leadership of CEO Ezekiel Adamu, who has taken care of all logistical expenses, including airfare, accommodations, and allowances for attendees.
NBBofC President Dr. Rafiu Ladipo highlighted the initiative’s primary objective: to enhance officiating standards within Nigerian boxing. He stressed the vital link between quality officiating and the growth of the sport, asserting that poor officiating can hinder development. Bringing in a seasoned official like Barnor is a testament to the commitment being shown towards boxing in Nigeria, as well as the collaborative effort with Balmoral Group to promote and uplift the sport.
