The citizens of Grand Kru County, particularly those residing in Electoral District #2, have voiced their unwavering support for embattled Speaker of the House of Representatives, Cllr. J. Fonati Koffa, urging him to resist calls for his resignation. Their plea stems from a deep appreciation for Speaker Koffa’s leadership and the tangible developmental progress witnessed in the county since his election in 2017. This progress encompasses infrastructural improvements, advancements in social justice, and overall socio-economic development that has positively impacted all twelve traditional communities within Grand Kru County. The citizens’ appeal underscores their belief in Koffa’s vision and his ability to continue driving positive change in their region.

News of Speaker Koffa’s potential resignation has sparked widespread concern and prompted community meetings across the county. This marks the first time these citizens have publicly voiced their opinions since the political crisis within the House of Representatives erupted, aiming to oust Koffa from his position. The prospect of losing their representative has left them feeling disheartened and apprehensive about the future of their district and county, given the significant contributions Koffa has made to their development. They emphasize the shame and embarrassment his resignation would bring, considering the overwhelming support he received during the 2023 elections.

The citizens, hailing from various towns and villages including Forpoh, Dorbor, Buah, Jloh, Sass Town (Upper and Lower), and Barclayville, passionately express their reliance on Speaker Koffa’s leadership. They highlight the positive changes he has brought to their communities, emphasizing the improvements in infrastructure, social justice, and the overall socio-economic landscape. Their collective sentiment reflects a deep sense of loss and uncertainty should Koffa choose to step down, emphasizing the difficulty of finding another representative capable of matching his dedication and effectiveness. The outpouring of support from diverse communities underscores the profound impact Koffa has had on the lives of the people of Grand Kru County.

Prominent figures within the county have also joined the chorus of support for Speaker Koffa. Sunday E. Toogbabu, Sr., general coordinator for “Friends of Cllr. Jonathan Fonati Koffa”, implored the Speaker to reconsider any thoughts of resignation. Several other community leaders, including Patrica Bartu of Sasstown Down Beach, Hawa Toogbabu of Weakeken, Barcyville city, and Wesley Nagbe of Noakia, echoed this sentiment, expressing deep regret at the possibility of Koffa leaving his post. They emphasize that he was elected to represent the interests of District #2 and his resignation would create a void that would be difficult to fill.

The citizens’ decision to speak out publicly follows a period of anxious observation of the legal proceedings surrounding the Speaker’s position. They initially withheld public comment while awaiting the Supreme Court’s ruling on the dispute between the Majority bloc and Speaker Koffa’s supporters, known as the Minority bloc. However, the forceful entry into the Speaker’s office on February 11, 2025, led by Representative James Kolleh, Chairman of the House Committee on Rules, Order, and Administration, compelled them to break their silence. This act, perceived as an affront to their representative, galvanized their resolve to express their unwavering support for Speaker Koffa.

Their plan to send a delegation to Monrovia reinforces their commitment to stand by their representative during this challenging period. They aim to reassure Speaker Koffa of their steadfast support and to counter the misinformation circulating within the county, which has caused them considerable distress. They also request that Speaker Koffa maintain regular communication with them to dispel the rampant rumors and alleviate their anxieties. This demonstrates their profound trust in his leadership and their desire to remain informed about the ongoing political situation. The citizens of Grand Kru County have made their position clear: they stand firmly behind Speaker Koffa and urge him to continue serving as their representative and Speaker of the House.
