The year 2024 marked a significant spiritual gathering in the Idjerhe Kingdom, located within Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State, Nigeria. The annual Idjerhe Prayer Day, a collaborative effort between His Majesty, King Monday Obukowho Arthur Whiskey, and the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Idjerhe district, centered on the theme “Gain of Unity.” This theme resonated deeply with the community’s aspirations for socio-economic development and underscored the importance of collective prayer in achieving these goals. The event, held in the heart of the kingdom at Oto’rho Idjerhe, drew a diverse crowd of residents, dignitaries, and religious leaders, all united in their desire for the kingdom’s progress.

The atmosphere at the prayer gathering was palpably charged with spiritual fervour. Attendees, ranging from traditional leaders and chiefs to bishops, clerics, political figures, and community members, joined voices in fervent prayer. Their supplications focused on peace, unity, progress, and sustained development, reflecting a collective yearning for prosperity and stability within the Idjerhe Kingdom. The presence of such a diverse group highlighted the significance of the event, demonstrating a shared commitment to the well-being of the community.

King Monday Whiskey, the traditional ruler, delivered a powerful keynote address that emphasized the critical role of unity in the kingdom’s journey towards development. He underscored the intrinsic link between peace and progress, urging all sons and daughters of Idjerhe to prioritize the collective good. His call to action emphasized the importance of individual contributions, encouraging residents to invest in local businesses and support development initiatives. Reflecting on the past year’s achievements, King Whiskey attributed the successes to divine intervention, further emphasizing the importance of sustained prayer. He urged the community to continue seeking divine guidance and blessings, not just for Idjerhe but for the entire nation of Nigeria. His call for prayers for increased opportunities and industrial growth extended beyond the local context, highlighting a broader concern for national development and prosperity.

A highlight of the Idjerhe Prayer Day was the collective prayer led by Bishop Great Améye, the first indigenous bishop of the kingdom. Joined by the king, chiefs, and other clerics, Bishop Améye led the community in seeking divine blessings for unity and progress. His earlier message on love and forgiveness resonated deeply, underscoring their crucial role in fostering unity within the kingdom. The bishop’s emphasis on embracing one another and working together for harmony provided a powerful message of reconciliation and collaboration.
