The Dormaa East District Assembly, in collaboration with the Ghana Productive Safety Net Project (GPSNP), has empowered 61 individuals with entrepreneurial skills and financial resources to establish sustainable businesses in pepper farming and soap making. This initiative, falling under the GPSNP’s Productive Inclusion (PI) program, aims to elevate the economic standing of vulnerable households within selected communities in the district. On Wednesday, February 5, 2025, a significant milestone was achieved as the beneficiaries received a total of GHS 193,950 in cash grants. This financial injection was coupled with access to a dedicated mini market, strategically established to facilitate the procurement of essential business supplies. The integration of this mini market streamlined the process, ensuring beneficiaries could immediately invest their grants in the necessary logistics for their respective ventures. The distribution of the grants was structured to align with the specific needs of each trade. The 44 individuals trained in pepper farming received GHS 3,330 each, a sum determined to cover the initial investment required for land preparation, seedling acquisition, fertilizers, and other essential farming inputs. Similarly, the 17 individuals specializing in soap making received GHS 2,790 each, an amount deemed sufficient to purchase raw materials such as oils, lye, fragrances, and packaging materials. This tailored approach ensures that the provided funds are effectively utilized to launch and sustain their respective businesses.
