The Coordinator of the Edo State Security Corps, CP Friday Ibadin (retd.), has recently called upon the 11,089 personnel of the defunct Edo State Security Network, now designated as the Edo State Security Corps (ESSC), to participate in a critical profiling initiative. This appeal was made during an event in Benin, where Ibadin emphasized the commitment of the state government, led by Governor Monday Okpebholo, to ensure a safer environment across Edo State. He pointed out that the correlation between security and development is pivotal, stressing that advancements in the state cannot be realized without a foundational element of safety for its citizens. By highlighting the necessity of collaboration between security measures and developmental projects, Ibadin underscored the administration’s priority of establishing a secure society conducive to growth and prosperity.
The upcoming profiling exercise is intended to enhance the operational framework of the state security outfit, and Ibadin provided details on logistics for the personnel. He announced that the profiling would occur simultaneously across the state’s three senatorial districts on December 2, 2024. For those serving in Edo North, the designated meeting point will be at the Police Area Command in Auchi, while personnel in Edo Central are to gather at the public field in Esan North East. The personnel from Edo South are expected to convene in Benin City. This coordinated effort aims to ensure an organized assessment of the existing security personnel, which Ibadin believes is necessary to determine the strength, composition, and overall disposition of the corps.
To facilitate accurate profiling, Ibadin urged all personnel to present themselves in full uniform, equipped with their identity cards, and to bring any arms they may possess. This requirement serves a dual purpose: ensuring the identification and legitimacy of the personnel while establishing a framework for accountability and order within the security corps. By instructing members to display proper attire and documentation, the coordinator aims to cultivate a sense of professionalism and discipline within the ranks of the ESSC. This initiative is seen not only as a mandatory task but also as a step towards reinforcing the credibility and reliability of the security forces in Edo.
In addition to the logistical details, Ibadin elaborated on the broader implications of the profiling exercise. He reiterated the importance of public awareness regarding the efforts being made to enhance security across the region. By involving community members and fostering understanding of the ESSC’s objectives, he hopes to build trust and cooperation between the corps and the citizens they serve. The message that without a safe society there can be no real development resonates throughout the initiative, reinforcing the notion that security efforts are integral to the holistic progress of Edo State.
Furthermore, Ibadin acknowledged the financial challenges involved in maintaining robust security initiatives, remarking that while security can be a costly affair, the toll of insecurity is far greater. This perspective shapes the rationale behind the profiling exercise, which seeks to sanitize the security framework in place and alleviate the concerns of the citizens. It is a proactive measure aimed at not just ensuring immediate safety but also generating a long-term environment where people can live without fear of crime or violence.
Ultimately, the push for profiling and re-evaluating personnel within the Edo State Security Corps stands as a testament to the administration’s dedication to fostering a safe and peaceful society. The initiatives led by Ibadin reflect a comprehensive strategy aimed at enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of security operations within the state, ensuring that citizens can enjoy their lives with peace of mind and appreciation for the efforts made by local authorities. Through these collaborative and organized efforts, Governor Okpebholo’s administration seeks to create a legacy of safety and prosperity that aligns with the needs and expectations of the people of Edo State.
