Edo State Embarks on Extensive Road Rehabilitation in Northern Senatorial District

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has initiated a comprehensive road rehabilitation project targeting critical federal roads within the Edo North Senatorial District. This initiative, encompassing approximately 9.61 kilometers of roadway, underscores the government’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure and fostering connectivity across the state. The project focuses on repairing and upgrading several key routes, including the Auchi-Igarra-Aiyetoro-Unemu-Nekhua-Aiyegunle-Ikpeshi-Ibillo-Ekor-Ikiran-Oke road, a vital artery within the region. This intervention aims to address the dilapidated state of these roads, improve transportation efficiency, and boost economic activities in the affected areas.

Governor Okpebholo emphasized the collaborative efforts with the federal government, highlighting President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to Edo State’s development. He affirmed that the President had personally instructed him to prioritize the rehabilitation of both federal and state roads experiencing significant deterioration. This directive reflects the shared vision of both administrations to provide Edo residents with essential infrastructure, ensuring their access to quality roads, education, healthcare, security, and other fundamental necessities. The governor’s visit to Abuja and subsequent discussions with the President demonstrate the ongoing dialogue and cooperation between state and federal authorities in addressing pressing infrastructural needs.

Beyond road rehabilitation, Governor Okpebholo addressed the pressing issue of kidnapping, assuring residents of Edo North of his resolute commitment to eradicating this criminal activity. He declared an unwavering stance against kidnapping, characterizing it as a “business” that would no longer be tolerated within the state. He vowed to take decisive action, working in tandem with security agencies to eliminate the presence of criminal elements operating within the region’s forests. Governor Okpebholo’s determination extended to a personal commitment, stating his willingness to relocate to Edo North if necessary to oversee the eradication of these criminal elements.

Addressing the environmental challenges facing Auchi and its environs, particularly the escalating gully erosion, Governor Okpebholo pledged his administration’s commitment to finding a sustainable solution. He emphasized that while tackling this issue is a priority, his government would adhere to due process in addressing the erosion problem at Water Tanker Road in Auchi, Ughiogwa, and Ayogwiri-Uzairue, all located within Etsako West Local Government Area. This approach underscores the government’s commitment to responsible governance and environmental stewardship.

The Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Blessing Agbebaku, conveyed the legislative arm’s unwavering support for the governor’s infrastructural development agenda. This pledge of support underscores the legislative body’s commitment to collaborating with the executive branch in driving forward key development projects across the state. The joint efforts of the executive and legislative branches demonstrate a unified approach to addressing the state’s infrastructural needs and promoting overall development objectives.

In summary, the Edo State government, under the leadership of Governor Okpebholo, has embarked on a multi-pronged approach to address critical infrastructural challenges and enhance the well-being of its citizens. The extensive road rehabilitation project in Edo North, coupled with the commitment to eradicating kidnapping and addressing environmental issues, demonstrates the administration’s comprehensive development strategy.
