The Ekiti State Executive Council has recently approved over N4 billion for a range of development projects aimed at enhancing public infrastructure and services across the state. This significant financial commitment is intended to address various needs within the community and support the growth of the state’s economy. The announcement was made by the Commissioner for Information, Taiwo Olatunbosun, who highlighted the importance of these projects in boosting the welfare of citizens and improving the overall quality of life in the region. The approval reflects the state government’s proactive approach to addressing key developmental issues and fostering a conducive environment for residents.

Among the major initiatives green-lighted by the council is a N2 billion contract for the construction of a multi-purpose building at the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital in Ado Ekiti. This project, awarded to Messrs Axial Nigeria Limited, is expected to take around 30 months to complete. The facility will consist of four wards, each equipped with 20 beds, ensuring that patients have access to adequate healthcare services. In addition to the wards, the building will feature essential amenities including a pharmacy, waiting and consulting rooms, as well as classrooms for lectures and seminars. The inclusion of offices, a reception area, and a medical library reflects a commitment to providing comprehensive healthcare and educational services at the teaching hospital.

The state government also allocated N416.8 million for the procurement and installation of furnishings at the Ekiti State cargo airport. This investment aims to enhance the comfort and convenience of both passengers and officials utilizing the airport. By improving facilities at the airport, the state hopes to boost both travel experiences and the local economy through increased trade activities and the potential for greater tourism. The commitment to infrastructure development demonstrates the government’s understanding of the critical role that transport plays in facilitating economic growth.

In a push for environmental improvement, the council approved N634.1 million for the acquisition of essential waste management equipment. This includes two Sinotruck Howo 4×2 Hook Arm Garbage trucks and two Sinotruck 4×2 Garbage compactors, which are intended for the Ekiti State Waste Management Authority. By upgrading the agency’s capacity to manage waste, the state government aims to keep the capital and its surroundings cleaner, thereby reducing potential health hazards associated with poor waste disposal. This initiative underscores the government’s dedication to maintaining a healthy living environment for residents.

Furthermore, the Executive Council has also discussed the implementation of a Biometric System for state government workers, an initiative designed to enhance transparency and accountability within the civil service. By adopting this technology, the state aims to streamline payroll processes and mitigate issues related to ghost workers or erroneous payments. This step reflects a broader commitment to improving governance and ensuring that public funds are utilized effectively for the benefit of Ekiti State citizens.
