The Ekiti State Government has embarked on a significant infrastructure development drive, earmarking over ₦14 billion for various projects aimed at enhancing the state’s road networks, educational facilities, water resources, and sanitation infrastructure. This substantial investment reflects the government’s commitment to improving the quality of life for its citizens and fostering economic growth. The projects, approved during a State Executive Council meeting, address critical needs across various sectors and demonstrate a comprehensive approach to development. The allocated funds will be distributed across several key areas, including road rehabilitation, construction of water and sanitation facilities in schools and health centers, expansion of the state’s revenue service building, and the creation of new road networks to stimulate economic activity.
A significant portion of the approved funds, ₦4.623 billion, has been dedicated to the rehabilitation of the Oke Ayedun–Ipao–Oke Ako–Irele Road. This crucial artery connecting several communities has fallen into disrepair, posing safety risks to residents and hindering transportation. The rehabilitation project, awarded to Messrs Dromo Nigeria Limited, aims to restore the road’s functionality and improve accessibility for the affected communities. This investment underscores the government’s commitment to improving rural connectivity and facilitating trade and movement within the state. The improved road network will not only enhance transportation efficiency but also contribute to the overall economic development of the region.
Focusing on improving water and sanitation, the Ekiti State Government has allocated ₦2.994 billion for the construction of 110 facilities in schools and health centers across the state’s 38 local governments and council development areas. This initiative, supported by the World Bank’s Sustainable Urban and Rural Water Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene (SURWASH) program, will provide 55 new facilities in schools and an equal number in health centers. These facilities will improve hygiene practices, reduce the spread of waterborne diseases, and create a healthier environment for students and patients. Further strengthening the SURWASH program, an additional ₦316.5 million has been allocated for the procurement of 110 Grundfos solar water pumps. These pumps will ensure a reliable and sustainable water supply, further enhancing the impact of the sanitation facilities and contributing to improved health outcomes.
Recognizing the need for improved infrastructure to support its revenue generation efforts, the state government has also allocated ₦1.702 billion for the construction of a new Ekiti State Revenue House. The current building is deemed inadequate to accommodate the growing needs of the revenue service, especially given the recent improvements in revenue collection through innovative measures. This investment reflects the government’s commitment to strengthening its revenue generation capacity and ensuring efficient tax administration. The new Revenue House will provide a modern and functional space for the agency, facilitating its operations and contributing to the overall financial stability of the state. This investment in infrastructure will support the government’s ability to fund further development initiatives and improve public services.
In addition to these projects, the government has approved ₦2.077 billion for additional works on the rehabilitation of the Hospitals Management Board/Doctors’ Quarters Road Extension to Apata Natha Junction Road in Ado Ekiti. This road project will enhance access to healthcare facilities and improve connectivity within the state capital. Furthermore, ₦1.47 billion has been allocated for the construction of the Bovas Filling Station–Spotless Hotel Road in Ado Ekiti. This new road is expected to stimulate socio-economic activities in the area and improve transportation links, contributing to the overall development of the city. These investments in road infrastructure demonstrate the government’s commitment to improving urban mobility and facilitating economic growth.
The Ekiti State Government’s commitment to infrastructure development is evident in the comprehensive nature of the approved projects. These initiatives address crucial needs across various sectors, including transportation, education, healthcare, water and sanitation, and revenue generation. The government’s investment of over ₦14 billion signifies a substantial effort to improve the lives of its citizens, create a more conducive environment for businesses, and promote sustainable development. By prioritizing these critical infrastructure projects, the Ekiti State Government is laying the foundation for long-term economic growth and improved living standards for all. The impact of these projects is expected to be far-reaching, contributing to a more prosperous and vibrant future for the state.
