Former National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Ofosu Ampofo, has called upon Ghanaians to express their dissatisfaction with the current government during the upcoming elections on December 7, 2024. He encourages citizens to channel their frustrations not through confrontations or arguments, but instead by voting decisively against the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP). Ampofo made these remarks while addressing the residents of the Guan constituency, where he highlighted the perceived failures of the NPP in providing proper representation and development to the region.

Ampofo emphatically pointed out that the constituents of Santrokofi, Akpafu, Lipke, and Lolobi should aim for a turnout that exceeds a 100% vote for the NDC, emphasizing the necessity of unity and strong opposition to the ruling party. His insistence on a 100% vote reflects both the depth of local discontent and the NDC’s strategic focus on galvanizing voter turnout in areas historically aligned with their party. He underscored that every vote is crucial in articulating the community’s collective anger and frustration towards the current government’s policies and actions, which he claims have hindered the region’s progress.

The former chairman also elaborated on the implications of lacking adequate representation. He stated that without their own Member of Parliament (MP) for the past four years, the constituency has been deprived of its share of the MPs’ common fund. This fund is typically allocated to support development initiatives within constituencies. By cutting off this vital resource, the NPP has, according to Ampofo, stifled potential growth and progress in the Guan area, which has suffered from underdevelopment as a direct consequence of governmental negligence.

In making a case for the NDC, Ampofo urged constituents to harness their frustrations and transform them into a powerful voting bloc. Rather than resorting to violence or insults—a common pitfall in political discourse—he advocates for a peaceful yet forceful assertion of their political will on Election Day. He believes that this electoral participation will not only send a strong message to the ruling party but also demonstrate the constituency’s desire for positive change through representation.

In addition to emphasizing voter turnout, Ampofo reiterated the importance of supporting John Dramani Mahama, the NDC’s presidential candidate, as a means of restoring representation and accountability in governance. He urged the voters to come to the polls with their emotions, reflecting their discontent with the current administration, and to use their votes to effect change. His message resonates with those who feel marginalized and underscores a call for mobilization and solidarity among supporters of the NDC.

Overall, Ofosu Ampofo’s remarks encapsulate a wider narrative of political dissent and a desire for transformation within the Guan constituency and beyond. His call to action highlights the role of collective and peaceful resistance in electoral processes, framing the upcoming election as not just a democratic exercise, but as a pivotal moment for citizens to reclaim their voice and agency in governance. Through a concerted voting effort, Ampofo hopes the NDC can reclaim its influence and ensure better representation and development for the region, while simultaneously challenging the NPP’s legitimacy in light of their perceived failures.
