The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Lagos State Command, apprehended Obi Levi Obieze, a suspected criminal, at the Gbaji checkpoint along the Badagry-Seme Road on May 29, 2025. Obieze, also known as Levi Obu Onyeka, was attempting to flee the country on a motorcycle when he was intercepted by NIS operatives. His arrest came after credible intelligence linked him to the abduction, kidnapping, and alleged ritual killing of a 13-year-old girl in Isiagu Community, Enugu State. Following his arrest, the NIS Lagos State Command transferred Obieze to the Lagos State Police Command for further investigation and prosecution.

The hand-over of the suspect to the police was confirmed by the Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, who announced the development on social media. This inter-agency cooperation underscores the commitment of Nigerian law enforcement agencies to collaborate in combating crime and bringing perpetrators to justice. The transfer of Obieze to the police will facilitate a more comprehensive investigation into the alleged crimes and ensure that all relevant evidence is gathered and presented in court.

Obieze’s apprehension stemmed from an ongoing investigation into the disappearance of a 13-year-old girl in Enugu State. Reports indicate that the victim was abducted on May 27, 2025, while walking with her father to their farm. Following her disappearance, a search was launched, leading to her rescue from a shrine allegedly connected to Obieze. The young girl’s ordeal highlights the vulnerability of children and the urgent need to address the root causes of such heinous crimes.

The Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Kemi Nandap, confirmed the details of Obieze’s arrest and the alleged crimes. The suspect, identified as a native doctor from Umuajor village in Enugu State, was reportedly part of a three-man group involved in the abduction. His identification was confirmed through a National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) enrollment slip found in his possession. This crucial piece of evidence solidified the link between Obieze and the alleged crimes, further strengthening the case against him.

During preliminary questioning by the NIS, Obieze reportedly confessed to his involvement in the abduction, kidnapping, and alleged ritual killing. This confession, while subject to further investigation and corroboration, provides a significant breakthrough in the case. It offers a starting point for investigators to unravel the details of the crime, including the motive, the roles of other potential accomplices, and the circumstances surrounding the victim’s rescue from the shrine.

The arrest of Obieze signifies a victory for law enforcement agencies and demonstrates their resolve to protect citizens and uphold the rule of law. The collaborative efforts between the NIS and the police highlight the importance of inter-agency cooperation in combating crime effectively. The ongoing investigation will delve deeper into the circumstances of the crime, ensuring that all those involved are held accountable. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the need for continued vigilance and proactive measures to address the underlying issues that contribute to such crimes, including the protection of vulnerable members of society.
