The political landscape of Ekiti State is abuzz with endorsements for Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s second-term bid. Spearheading this wave of support is a 24-member committee chaired by former Deputy Governor, Abiodun Aluko. This committee, tasked with coordinating a state-wide endorsement program, has been instrumental in consolidating the various declarations of support emanating from diverse stakeholders across the state. Aluko asserts that the endorsements are not orchestrated but rather a spontaneous expression of confidence in Oyebanji’s leadership, reflecting his impactful governance. This groundswell of support, he argues, transcends mere political maneuvering and represents a genuine appreciation of the governor’s achievements.

A key element fueling the momentum for Oyebanji’s second term is the unprecedented backing from all former governors of Ekiti State. Aluko emphasizes that this support is voluntary and driven by the recognition of Oyebanji’s exceptional performance. He highlights the fact that the endorsement committee itself was not established by the governor but arose organically from concerned stakeholders exercising their democratic rights. This bottom-up approach further underscores the authenticity of the movement and its grounding in popular sentiment. The endorsements, according to Aluko, are a testament to Oyebanji’s ability to unite diverse political forces and inspire confidence across the spectrum.

To effectively manage the state-wide endorsement program, several specialized sub-committees have been inaugurated. These committees, each headed by prominent figures in Ekiti’s political and social spheres, are designed to address specific aspects of the endorsement process. The Central Organizing Committee/Budget, chaired by Aluko himself, oversees the overall coordination and financial management of the initiative. Other committees focus on crucial areas such as fundraising, security, media relations, mobilization, venue arrangements, and medical services. This structured approach ensures a comprehensive and well-managed endorsement campaign.

Responding to criticisms regarding the perceived contradiction between the endorsement process and calls for internal party democracy, Aluko challenges the consistency of these arguments. He points to the Progressive Governors Forum’s endorsement of President Bola Tinubu as the APC’s sole candidate for the 2027 presidential election as a precedent. This, he argues, demonstrates that endorsements are a common practice within the political landscape and do not necessarily negate the principles of internal democracy. He further emphasizes that the endorsements for Oyebanji are not confined to a single source but have emanated from a wide range of stakeholders, indicating broad-based support.

The groundswell of support for Oyebanji transcends political divides and encompasses various sectors of Ekiti society. Endorsements have poured in from all three senatorial districts, diverse groups, and institutions, including the APC State Caucus, the Nigeria Union of Pensioners, teachers’ unions, local government employees, student and youth organizations, and traditional institutions. This diverse array of endorsements, Aluko argues, reflects the governor’s impact across various sectors, including road infrastructure, healthcare, workers’ welfare, pensioners’ benefits, agriculture, education, and human capital development. These endorsements, he maintains, are driven by tangible improvements in the lives of Ekiti residents.

Aluko concludes by appealing to the people of Ekiti State to continue supporting Governor Oyebanji with their prayers. He emphasizes that the governor’s administration has ushered in an era of sustained peace and rapid development, laying a solid foundation for future progress. The endorsements, he argues, are not merely political gestures but a recognition of Oyebanji’s commitment to the well-being of the state and its people. He urges Ekiti residents to actively participate in the ongoing transformation of the state and to continue supporting the governor’s vision for a prosperous and harmonious future.
