Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has appointed Professor Toyin Ogundipe, the former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, as the new Chairman and Pro-Chancellor of Redeemers University located in Ede, Osun State. He began his higher education at the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University), where he graduated with a degree in Botany in 1984. This foundational education led him to pursue a National Youth Service Corps program in Rivers State before returning to the University of Ife to earn both his Master’s degree and a PhD in Botany, completing the latter in March 1990. His academic career took off in May 1990 at the University of Lagos, where he steadily advanced to the position of professor by 2002.
Beyond his foundational education, Ogundipe has further honed his expertise through advanced training at prestigious institutions, including the University of Cambridge and Harvard University. His research focus covers a wide range of topics, including Molecular Plant Taxonomy, Forensic Botany, Cytogenetics, Ethnobotany, and Ecological Conservation. His impressive scholarly output includes over 90 publications and eight co-authored books, underscoring his significant contributions to the field of Botany. In terms of leadership experience, Ogundipe has held several prominent roles at the University of Lagos, such as serving as the head of the Department of Botany and the dean of the School of Postgraduate Studies.
