The peaceful tranquility of Ojobi, a community nestled within the Gomoa East District of Ghana’s Central Region, was shattered by the gruesome discovery of Alexander Kwaku Boateng, a 65-year-old private security guard. On June 30th, Boateng’s lifeless body was found at his post, a One-District-One-Factory (1D1F) site, bearing the chilling hallmarks of a premeditated and violent attack. His head was encased in a plastic bag, indicative of suffocation, while his hands and feet were tightly bound, suggesting a struggle against his assailants. The scene painted a grim picture of a brutal murder, motivated by something more sinister than mere robbery.

The 1D1F site, meant to be a symbol of progress and economic development, became the backdrop for a heinous crime. The investigation revealed that the site’s electricity transformer, a vital piece of infrastructure, had been systematically dismantled and its internal components stolen. Several electrical cables were also missing, bringing the total value of the stolen property to an estimated GHS 250,000.00. This significant theft, coupled with the brutal nature of Boateng’s murder, pointed towards a carefully planned operation executed with a chilling disregard for human life. The perpetrators had not only robbed the community of valuable resources but also of a dedicated security guard entrusted with protecting these assets.

The Gomoa Ojobi District Police Command, spurred into action by the gravity of the crime, launched an intensive investigation. Utilizing intelligence gathering and investigative techniques, they swiftly apprehended four suspects believed to be connected to the murder and theft. Among them were 28-year-old Samuel Larbie, a businessman, and 32-year-old Wisdom Sosu, a motor mechanic. These two individuals have been identified as the prime suspects in the orchestration and execution of the crime, potentially playing key roles in both the murder and the theft of the electrical equipment.

The police investigation also netted two other individuals, Nabil Mohammed and Mahmoud Kadir. These two are alleged to have been involved in the handling and disposal of the stolen goods, effectively acting as fences for the stolen property. Among the recovered items was the victim’s Infinix Smart 8 mobile phone, which was reportedly sold for a mere GHS 1,800.00, a stark contrast to the value of the transformer components and a chilling reminder of the callous disregard for human life and the trivialization of Boateng’s death. This discovery further solidified the link between the suspects and the crime, implicating them in the aftermath of the brutal act.

While the apprehension of these four individuals represents a significant step towards justice, the police investigation remains active. Four additional suspects, believed to be complicit in the crime, are currently at large and are being actively pursued by law enforcement. The police have assured the public of their unwavering commitment to apprehending these fugitives and ensuring that all those involved in this heinous act are brought to justice. This commitment reflects the seriousness with which the police are treating the case and their dedication to ensuring the safety and security of the community.

The murder of Alexander Kwaku Boateng has sent shockwaves through the Ojobi community, leaving residents grappling with a sense of insecurity and fear. The incident highlights the vulnerability of workers, particularly security personnel, stationed at remote industrial projects. It underscores the need for enhanced security measures at such locations to protect those entrusted with safeguarding valuable assets. The police have appealed to the public for assistance, urging anyone with information related to the crime to come forward and contribute to the ongoing investigation. This collaborative approach is crucial in bringing closure to the case and ensuring the safety and security of the Ojobi community in the wake of this tragic event. The pursuit of justice for Alexander Kwaku Boateng continues, with the hope that his killers will be held accountable and that such a tragedy will never again befall the community.
