Residents of the Anyaa Sowutuom Constituency in Greater Accra have exhibited great enthusiasm for the recently launched campaign book titled “For The Records,” which outlines the National Democratic Congress (NDC) achievements during its government tenure. Endorsed by former President John Dramani Mahama, the book documents numerous developmental projects the party initiated in the constituency before leaving office in 2017. The launch of this publication has ignited excitement and engagement among community members, as its content serves to remind them of the NDC’s substantial contributions and impact on local development.

The book highlights a range of infrastructure projects, including educational establishments, such as the Grata D Shepherd Basic School at Awoshie Last Stop, and classroom expansions in Odorgonnor Model One and Two Basic Schools, as well as the Chantan Experimental Basic School at Tabora. It also underscores significant road constructions, notably the Awoshie-Pokuase highway and the Kwashieman-Sowutuom-Ofankor road. Beyond education and transportation, the publication addresses improvements in sanitation, with renovations of toilet facilities at educational institutions and the construction of public toilets at strategic locations like Antie-Aku and the Anyaa Bus Terminal. Other civic infrastructures, such as the Sowutuom Police Station and the Sowutuom Court Complex, are also detailed, reaffirming the NDC’s dedication towards community enhancement.

Mr. Kofi Mensah, a local teacher, reflects the general sentiment of the community, emphasizing his desire to understand the NDC’s contributions to local development. Similarly, market trader Akosua Owusu believes the information provided in the book is crucial for holding leaders accountable, highlighting a broader demand for transparency and responsibility from elected officials. The NDC flagbearer for the 2024 elections echoed these sentiments, asserting the significance of the book as a tangible reminder of the party’s commitment to the development of the area, encapsulating the various initiatives undertaken during their governance.

The launch event of “For The Records” featured prominent NDC figures, including former Finance Minister Seth Terkper, who urged supporters to utilize the book as a countermeasure against misinformation regarding the party’s successes, reinforcing the importance of accurate record-keeping for political credibility. Emmanuel Nii Ashie Moore, the NDC Greater Accra Regional Chairman, reiterated the party’s ongoing commitment to the development of Anyaa Sowutuom, emphasizing that the publication serves not just as a record of achievements but as an embodiment of the NDC’s dedication to the constituency’s advancement.

In response to the warm reception, Mr. Raphael Apetorgbor, the book’s author and Deputy Communications Officer for the constituency, expressed gratitude for the resident’s interest. He elucidated that “For The Records” is more than merely a collection of projects; it encapsulates the strides taken during their administration, thereby reinforcing a sense of communal pride. Members of the community, including local nurse Abena Asante and youth leader Samuel Adjei, conveyed their eagerness to receive copies, showcasing the book’s pivotal role in fostering a sense of belonging and investment in local development narratives.

The distribution of over 2,000 copies of “For The Records” across various community venues, including markets and churches, illustrates a significant level of engagement among residents seeking a deeper understanding of their constituency’s growth under the NDC. Such widespread interest not only signifies a collective appreciation for the initiated projects but also reflects a larger appetite for political accountability and civic involvement within the community. Ultimately, the book is positioned as an essential tool for reflection and discussion regarding past achievements, facilitating a dialogue that could influence future governance within Anyaa Sowutuom.
