The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Kano Sector Command, is implementing a comprehensive special patrol operation for the 2025 Eid-el-Fitr celebrations. This operation, scheduled to run from March 27th to April 2nd, 2025, aims to proactively address the expected surge in both human and vehicular traffic associated with the festive period, ensuring a safe and smooth experience for all travelers. The initiative underscores the FRSC’s commitment to minimizing road traffic crashes, fatalities, and injuries, promoting responsible road usage, and fostering a secure environment for the community during this significant religious occasion. This proactive approach aims to mitigate potential risks and ensure a joyous and incident-free celebration for everyone.

Central to the special patrol operation is the strategic deployment of a substantial workforce. A total of 1,889 personnel, encompassing 1,348 regular marshals and 541 special marshals, will be actively engaged in ensuring road safety throughout the designated period. This robust deployment will enhance the FRSC’s visibility on major highways across Kano State, enabling swift responses to emergencies and effective enforcement of traffic regulations. The presence of a larger force will also serve as a deterrent against reckless driving and other traffic violations, contributing significantly to accident prevention and overall road safety.

In addition to personnel deployment, the FRSC is deploying a range of logistical resources to support the special patrol. Five ambulances will be on 24/7 standby at designated service points, ensuring prompt medical assistance and emergency response in the event of accidents or other medical emergencies. Furthermore, a heavy-duty tow truck will be available for the swift removal of obstructions from highways, ensuring the continuous flow of traffic and minimizing disruptions. These logistical provisions are crucial for mitigating the impact of potential incidents and maintaining smooth traffic flow during the peak travel period.

The FRSC’s special patrol operation will focus on several key areas to achieve its objectives. Strict enforcement of road traffic laws and regulations will be paramount, with officers actively monitoring and addressing violations to deter reckless driving and promote adherence to safety standards. Prompt rescue and response to distress calls will be prioritized, ensuring that assistance is readily available to those in need. Additionally, the FRSC will focus on the speedy removal of obstructions from highways to prevent traffic congestion and ensure smooth traffic flow, particularly on major routes leading to and from Eid prayer grounds.

To further strengthen its efforts, the FRSC will implement traffic control and traffic calming measures at all Eid prayer grounds across the state. This will involve managing traffic flow, ensuring lane discipline, and promoting orderliness to prevent congestion and potential accidents in areas experiencing high pedestrian and vehicular traffic. The deployment of mobile courts will facilitate the efficient handling of traffic infractions, ensuring that offenders are dealt with swiftly and justly, thereby reinforcing the importance of adhering to traffic regulations.

The Sector Commander, Masa’udu Matazu, has issued a stern warning against car racing and underage driving during the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations, emphasizing the inherent dangers of these activities. He has urged all road users to strictly comply with traffic regulations to ensure a safe and joyous festive period. This call for responsible road usage underscores the collective responsibility of all stakeholders in maintaining road safety and contributing to a positive celebratory experience for the entire community. By adhering to traffic laws and exhibiting cautious driving behavior, individuals can significantly contribute to accident prevention and ensure a safe and enjoyable Eid-el-Fitr celebration.
