Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, embarked on a visit to Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, located in the Rumuolumeni community of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area. Prompted by a request from the university’s governing council, the governor toured the institution’s facilities, accompanied by Vice-Chancellor Okechukwu Onuchukwu and Governing Council Chairman Adokiye Amiesimaka. The purpose of the visit was to assess the state of the university’s infrastructure and explore avenues for government intervention.

Governor Fubara’s assessment of the university’s infrastructure painted a bleak picture, revealing a significant lack of development. He expressed his disappointment at the limited progress made beyond what had been achieved through TETFund interventions, acknowledging the state government’s shortcomings in supporting the institution. He announced the approval of several key projects, including the construction of new male and female hostels to alleviate accommodation challenges faced by students. He further sanctioned the construction of an administrative block to enhance the university’s operational efficiency, along with a new health center to cater to the well-being of the university community. Recognizing the importance of extracurricular activities, the governor also approved the construction of a sports complex.
