Globacom, a prominent Nigerian telecommunications company, has embarked on a comprehensive network enhancement initiative to elevate customer experience across the nation. This ambitious project, initiated last year, encompasses a multi-pronged approach, including the deployment of new cell sites and the modernization of existing infrastructure to bolster network capacity, speed, and data capabilities for a burgeoning subscriber base. This upgrade cycle addresses the entire spectrum of telecom infrastructure, spanning core network enhancements, access network improvements, transmission and IP network optimization, fiber network expansion, metro access and backbone infrastructure upgrades, and augmentation of passive equipment like power and environmental control systems. This holistic approach aims to create a robust and resilient network capable of meeting the evolving demands of Nigerian consumers.

The current phase of Globacom’s network upgrade focuses on strategic locations across Nigeria. Hundreds of new sites have been rolled out in key states, including Lagos, Ogun, Nasarawa, Rivers, Edo, Delta, Cross River, Kaduna, Kano, and Abuja. These deployments are strategically positioned to address network congestion and enhance both voice and data services, thereby optimizing customer experience in high-demand areas. This expansion aligns with the company’s commitment to deliver world-class telecommunications services at competitive rates, particularly in the context of recent tariff increases within the industry. By proactively investing in infrastructure, Globacom aims to mitigate the impact of these increases and ensure sustained value for its customers.

Further bolstering data services, Globacom has integrated hundreds of LTE 2600 sites in key markets such as Lagos, Oyo, Ogun, Ondo, and Kwara, as well as within several tertiary institutions across Rivers, Edo, Abuja, Enugu, and Anambra states. This strategic implementation of advanced LTE technology aims to enhance high-speed data access and prevent network congestion in these crucial areas. This focus on educational institutions underscores Globacom’s commitment to supporting the academic community and ensuring seamless access to information and resources. This investment in LTE technology is a key component of Globacom’s strategy to deliver a premium data experience.

In alignment with the Nigerian government’s broadband penetration initiative, Globacom has substantially increased data network capacity and implemented enhancements across 1,700 sites. These improvements span a wide geographical area, encompassing Ogun, Oyo, Ondo, Osun, Ekiti, Edo, Delta, Anambra, Enugu, Abia, Ebonyi, Bayelsa, Benue, Nasarawa, Kaduna, and Plateau states. This widespread expansion of data capacity directly addresses the government’s objective of increasing broadband access and aims to significantly improve data throughput and overall network experience, leading to enhanced customer satisfaction. This collaborative effort between Globacom and the government underscores the shared commitment to advancing digital connectivity within the country.

Globacom’s network upgrade is not limited to specific technologies or regions. Hundreds of new 2G, 3G, and 4G base stations are being deployed nationwide to bolster coverage and accommodate growing capacity demands. This comprehensive approach ensures that customers across the spectrum of mobile technology generations benefit from improved service delivery, network quality, and expanded coverage. By simultaneously investing in multiple generations of mobile technology, Globacom caters to the diverse needs of its customer base and future-proofs its network against evolving technological advancements.

To further enhance network resilience and support these extensive expansion projects, Globacom has undertaken significant improvements to its underlying infrastructure. The Glo1 submarine cable capacity has been upgraded to maximize utilization and ensure seamless ultra-high-speed access for Glo customers. This reinforces the technical expansions and upgrades being implemented across the network, guaranteeing a superior calling and browsing experience. Additionally, a nationwide drive to modernize power and fiber infrastructure is underway, with thousands of new generators being deployed and extensive fiber optic cable upgrades and replacements in progress. This initiative aims to create greater redundancy and enhance network availability, ensuring uninterrupted service for Glo customers. This comprehensive approach to infrastructure modernization underscores Globacom’s long-term commitment to providing a robust and reliable network.
