Hyundai Nigeria has launched a range of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) vehicles as part of its commitment to support President Bola Tinubu’s CNG Initiative. These vehicles, aimed at promoting sustainable and environmentally friendly transportation, are assembled in Nigeria and include models such as the Hyundai Grand i10, Accent, Creta, and Tucson. This initiative aligns with the Federal Government’s goal to encourage automakers to introduce more CNG-powered vehicles in the country, ultimately providing cost-effective alternatives to traditional petrol vehicles. Hyundai Nigeria, a subsidiary of Stallion Group, emphasized that these new offerings address the rising demand for fuel-efficient automobiles in Nigeria.

The CNG vehicles are specifically tailored to meet the needs of various segments of the market, from fleet owners to first-time car buyers. According to Gaurav Vashisht, the Head of Sales and Marketing for Hyundai Nigeria, the company is particularly targeting retail buyers and corporate customers. The CNG Grand i10 has been promoted as an ideal choice for fleet owners and those looking for reliable vehicles with low running costs. Hyundai’s CNG offerings come with factory-fitted kits, which include specially designed bulletproof cylinders that enhance safety and optimize trunk space, distinguishing these models from conventional converted vehicles that often compromise storage capacity.

In an effort to make these vehicles accessible to a broader audience, Hyundai Nigeria is also introducing auto finance options for customers who prefer financing over lump-sum payments. This initiative aims to encourage more Nigerians to consider CNG vehicles, thus contributing to the overall goal of reducing vehicular emissions and promoting greener transportation solutions. The Federal Government’s Presidential CNG Initiative, launched in 2023, is designed to foster partnerships with automakers to increase the availability of factory-fitted CNG vehicles, marking a significant shift towards more sustainable practices in the automotive industry.

Hyundai’s commitment to quality and customer satisfaction is highlighted by the inclusion of a 3-Year Unlimited Mileage Warranty on its newly launched CNG vehicles. This warranty, coupled with over 30 years of experience in providing after-sales support through its extensive nationwide network, underscores the company’s dedication to enhancing customer confidence in CNG technology. Vashisht emphasized the blend of style, economy, strength, and safety across the new CNG models, pointing out that these vehicles will not only be cost-effective but also safe and trendy, appealing to a diverse range of Nigerian consumers.

Among the notable features of the new models is the sporty design of the CNG Grand i10, which is equipped with a multi-point injected engine that pairs seamlessly with an automatic transmission. Safety remains a priority; the vehicle includes advanced features such as an anti-lock brake system, rear parking assist, and dual airbags, ensuring that safety is uncompromised while delivering an enjoyable driving experience. These attributes align with Hyundai’s reputation for producing reliable vehicles that cater to the evolving needs of the Nigerian automotive market.

The launch of Hyundai’s CNG vehicles marks a significant milestone in Nigeria’s push towards sustainable transportation. By making these environmentally friendly, cost-effective vehicles available to a broad audience, Hyundai Nigeria is taking a proactive role in supporting government initiatives aimed at enhancing the nation’s automotive landscape. With the backing of Hyundai’s longstanding legacy of innovation and quality, these CNG models will likely play an essential role in shaping the future of motoring in Nigeria, offering a cleaner alternative to traditional gasoline-powered vehicles and contributing to the overall goal of achieving a more sustainable environment.
