Nicholas Ukachukwu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for the upcoming Anambra election scheduled for November 8, 2025, has outlined his vision for the state, emphasizing the urgent need for security and industrialization over what he perceives as wasteful monument projects. During the inauguration of the APC governorship campaign council in Awka, Ukachukwu criticized the incumbent government for prioritizing projects like the “Fun City,” which he labeled a “monumental waste” of resources. He argued that Anambra’s current needs lie in boosting its economy through strategic investments in agriculture and power generation, rather than focusing on academic credentials or engaging in political attacks against opposition parties and candidates.

Ukachukwu’s proposed “agricultural chain revolution” aims to revitalize the state’s agricultural sector and create a robust and sustainable economic engine. He believes that Anambra’s economic activities should primarily revolve around manufacturing, trading, and farming. To facilitate this, he plans to prioritize security improvements and establish a power plant to drive an industrial cluster. He criticized the current state of healthcare in Anambra, describing hospitals as “glorified mortuaries,” and pledged to improve healthcare services if elected.

The APC candidate also addressed personal attacks against him, dismissing those who question his financial standing. He asserted his financial strength and emphasized his focus on concrete plans for Anambra’s development, rather than engaging in personal attacks. Ukachukwu argued that academic qualifications, though important, do not necessarily translate into effective leadership and practical solutions for the state’s challenges. He highlighted the importance of action and results over rhetoric and academic accolades.

Ukachukwu expressed confidence in his ability to secure victory in the November governorship election. He cited the backing of President Bola Tinubu, who has reportedly tasked the APC with winning Anambra state. This endorsement from the national leader, according to Ukachukwu, provides further momentum and strengthens his resolve to implement his vision for the state. He believes that the people of Anambra are ready for a change and that his focus on practical solutions for economic development and improved security will resonate with voters.

Ukachukwu’s campaign strategy appears to center on contrasting his pragmatic approach with what he perceives as the current administration’s misplaced priorities. He is emphasizing tangible economic development initiatives, with a particular focus on agriculture and industrialization, as a key differentiator. His criticism of the “Fun City” project serves as a symbolic representation of his argument against wasteful spending, while his proposed power plant and agricultural revolution represent his commitment to tangible and sustainable economic growth.

The upcoming Anambra governorship election promises to be a contest of contrasting visions for the state’s future. Ukachukwu’s emphasis on security, industrialization, and agricultural development contrasts with the incumbent government’s focus on other projects, which Ukachukwu criticizes as wasteful. The election will ultimately determine which vision resonates most strongly with the electorate and shapes the direction of Anambra state in the coming years. Ukachukwu’s confidence, backed by the support of the national party leadership, suggests a competitive and closely-watched race ahead.
