Governor Muhammadu Yahaya of Gombe State has expressed gratitude toward teachers in Gombe and across Nigeria, acknowledging their commitment, resilience, and hard work in shaping the future generations. In a goodwill message for World Teachers’ Day, he emphasized that quality education is fundamentally tied to the investment in the well-being and professional development of educators. His remarks, delivered via the Director-General of Press Affairs, Ismaila Misilli, highlighted the essential role teachers play not just as educators but as crucial stakeholders in societal development.

This year’s theme of World Teachers’ Day, “Valuing Teacher Voices: Towards a New Social Contract for Education,” resonated with Yahaya’s perspective on the integral role teachers play in the educational landscape. He emphasized the necessity of including their insights and experiences in policy-making processes. In an ever-evolving world, he posited that teachers’ input is vital in developing educational policies. This theme serves as a reminder for society to recognize the pivotal contributions of teachers and to ensure their voices are included in crucial decision-making.

Yahaya also took the opportunity to reflect on the initiatives his administration has taken to enhance teacher welfare in Gombe State. The governor highlighted efforts such as the recruitment of new educators to combat manpower shortages, consistent payment of salaries and entitlements, and the introduction of training and capacity-building programs for teachers. He asserted that these measures are essential for fostering a supportive environment that motivates educators, which in turn is critical for delivering quality education.

Moreover, the governor underscored his commitment to enhancing the educational infrastructure within the state, reaffirming his administration’s focus on creating a conducive learning environment. Improvements such as the revitalization of schools and the provision of modern teaching aids are aimed at enhancing the performance and productivity of both educators and students at all education levels. His administration’s approach aligns closely with the World Teachers’ Day theme, emphasizing that teachers must remain central to educational reform efforts.

In his message, Yahaya reiterated his administration’s promise to fortify a robust educational system that prioritizes teacher welfare. He called upon all stakeholders in education to continue supporting teachers and advocating for their voices to be recognized and respected within the broader educational discourse. Encouraging collaboration, he stated that collective efforts are essential in building an educational future where the insights and experiences of educators guide learning approaches.

Finally, Governor Yahaya extended warm wishes to the leadership of the Gombe State Chapter of the Nigeria Union of Teachers and all educators in the state. He praised their hard work, dedication, and patience, summarizing his vision for education as one that is shaped significantly by teachers themselves. This collaborative spirit, he argued, is critical to fostering an educational environment that not only respects but also elevates the contributions of those who play a pivotal role in teaching and learning. Together, they can forge a future in which education is guided by the voices of its most important stakeholders: the teachers.
