The Ashanti North Regional Police Command, in collaboration with the military, is set to launch a comprehensive security operation aimed at eradicating armed robbery activities along the Kumasi–Ejura–Atebubu Highway. This vital commercial artery has been plagued by criminal elements, posing a significant threat to the safety and security of commuters, traders, and residents alike. The joint operation represents a renewed commitment by law enforcement agencies to enhance security measures and safeguard lives and property along this crucial transportation route. This proactive approach underscores the police’s determination to maintain peace and order, fostering an environment conducive to economic activity and free movement.
The announcement of the impending operation was made by DCOP Jude Cobbinah, the Ashanti North Regional Police Commander, during a ceremony held in Ejura on July 21, 2025. The event marked the official handover of an eight-bedroom apartment to the Ghana Police Service, generously provided by the Ejurahene, Barimah Osei Hwedie II. This accommodation, secured through a two-year lease at a cost of nearly GH¢200,000, will provide housing for four senior police officers recently assigned to the newly established Ashanti North Police Command. The provision of adequate housing is seen as a critical factor in boosting police morale and operational effectiveness, ensuring officers are well-rested and adequately prepared to carry out their duties.
DCOP Cobbinah expressed profound gratitude to the Ejurahene for his steadfast support of the police administration, acknowledging his significant contributions to bolstering security efforts in the region. The Ejurahene’s commitment to public safety has been instrumental in achieving a notable reduction in robbery incidents along the Kumasi–Ejura section of the highway. However, the police remain vigilant and are determined to eliminate all remaining security threats through the planned joint operation with the military. This proactive stance demonstrates the police’s commitment to not only reacting to crime but actively preventing it, ensuring that the highway remains safe for all users.
The Ejurahene, Barimah Osei Hwedie II, explained that his decision to provide the accommodation stemmed from a deep-seated commitment to ensuring the well-being and security of his people. He recognized that providing decent housing for the officers entrusted with protecting the community was paramount. While the Ejura Divisional Council had already overseen the construction of a state-of-the-art police headquarters, the issue of suitable housing for officers remained a pressing concern. The Ejurahene’s proactive approach demonstrates his understanding of the importance of supporting law enforcement not only with infrastructure but also with the essential resources needed for officers to perform their duties effectively.
By offering comfortable and dignified living arrangements, the Ejurahene aims to empower the officers to perform their duties with greater efficiency and dedication. He emphasized the importance of a conducive living environment for the officers, recognizing that their well-being directly affects their ability to serve and protect the community. This act of generosity not only addresses a practical need but also symbolizes the strong partnership between the traditional authority and the police in maintaining peace and security.
The Ejurahene further urged the police to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and integrity, placing the interests of the nation above all else. He reiterated the Divisional Council’s unwavering support for law enforcement initiatives aimed at preserving peace and safety within Ejura and its surrounding areas. This partnership between the traditional authority and the police underscores the collective responsibility for security and demonstrates the commitment to creating a safe and thriving environment for all residents and travelers. The collaborative approach, combined with the proactive security operations, aims to establish a lasting legacy of peace and security in the region.
