The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna North Senatorial District, also known as Zone 1, has unequivocally endorsed President Bola Tinubu, Governor Uba Sani, and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, for re-election in 2027. This decisive move emerged from a high-profile stakeholders’ meeting held in Zaria, Kaduna State, attended by influential figures including former governors, current and former ministers, members of the National and State Assemblies, ambassadors, commissioners, heads of federal and state agencies, and key party leaders. The meeting served as a platform to showcase the achievements of the APC-led administrations at both federal and state levels, highlighting the significant contributions of Tinubu, Sani, and Abbas. A central theme of the gathering was the imperative of maintaining party unity to ensure a resounding victory in the upcoming 2027 general elections.

Minister of Environment, Balarabe Lawal Abbas, underscored the critical role of unity within the APC for achieving electoral success in 2027. He emphasized President Tinubu’s commitment to Kaduna State, citing various projects and his instrumental support for Speaker Abbas’s election. As a gesture of reciprocity, Minister Abbas urged the people of Zone 1 and Kaduna State to ensure a clean sweep for the APC across all elective positions in the 2027 elections. He specifically highlighted the President’s recent re-awarding of the Abuja-Kaduna road contract, notorious for banditry, with a strict six-month completion deadline, and a similar directive for the Zaria-Sokoto road project. In a veiled reference to former Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s new party, the Social Democratic Party, Minister Abbas cautioned against supporting alternative political options that offer no tangible progress.

Speaker Abbas revealed significant budgetary allocations earmarked for Zone 1 in the 2025 federal budget. He announced over N50 billion designated for projects across the eight local government areas within the zone, along with substantial funding for prominent institutions like Ahmadu Bello University, Kaduna State University, and the College of Education, Gidan Waya. Furthermore, he outlined plans for the distribution of farm inputs, equipment, and seedlings to farmers across Zone 1 and promised Hajj and Jerusalem pilgrimage opportunities for stakeholders to pray for the nation. Expressing gratitude for the support received from President Tinubu and Governor Sani, Speaker Abbas emphasized that their re-election is crucial for the continuation of his own legislative agenda. He advocated for regular party meetings at ward, local government, and zonal levels to strategize for the future and called on elected and appointed officials to prioritize the collective benefit of party members over personal gain.

Senator Suleiman Uthman Hunkuyi bolstered the argument for supporting the APC by asserting the party’s superior leadership compared to the opposition. He urged members to resist opposition attempts to discredit the APC’s leadership. Former Governor Yero echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the strategic importance of Zone 1 in Kaduna politics. He advocated for a grassroots, house-to-house campaign strategy to mobilize support for Tinubu, Sani, and Abbas in the 2027 elections. Dr. Abdulkadiri Meyere, Secretary to the Kaduna State Government, highlighted Zone 1’s prominent position within the state, boasting influential figures like the Speaker and the Minister of Environment. He appealed for unwavering loyalty to the APC to ensure its triumph in the 2027 elections.

Alhaji Mohammed Datti Babawo, National Vice Chairman (North West) of the APC, commended President Tinubu, Governor Sani, and Speaker Abbas, lauding the latter’s quiet effectiveness in attracting numerous federal projects to Kaduna State and the North-West region. He cited Speaker Abbas’s recent role in averting a crisis within the North-West Development Commission as evidence of his leadership. Babawo also announced the APC’s forthcoming nationwide electronic registration drive to compile accurate membership data. The meeting culminated in a unanimous endorsement of Tinubu, Sani, and Abbas as the sole APC candidates for their respective offices in the 2027 elections, solidifying their position within the party.

This strong show of support from Kaduna North Senatorial District signals a significant boost for the APC’s prospects in the 2027 elections. The endorsements, coupled with the highlighted achievements of the incumbents and the emphasis on party unity, demonstrate a concerted effort to mobilize the electorate and secure a resounding victory. The strategic importance of Zone 1 in Kaduna politics further amplifies the impact of this endorsement, setting the stage for an intense political campaign leading up to the 2027 elections. The commitment to grassroots mobilization, particularly the house-to-house campaign strategy, underscores the party’s determination to connect directly with voters and secure their support. The upcoming electronic registration drive will likely play a key role in strengthening the party’s organizational capacity and enhancing its ability to effectively target and engage voters.
