The Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Kaduna State has emphatically declared its resolve to safeguard its platform against political opportunists seeking rehabilitation and to uphold the authority of its legally recognized State Working Committee (SWC). Adamu Idris, the court-reinstated chairman of the party in Kaduna, addressed journalists at a press conference, underscoring the party’s commitment to its principles and its refusal to serve as a haven for individuals seeking to cleanse their political image or orchestrate a return to power. He emphasized that the SDP in Kaduna is committed to building a credible and people-oriented platform, not a stepping stone for those seeking personal gain at the expense of dedicated party members.

Idris recounted the unconstitutional dissolution of the duly elected SWC earlier in the year, a move that disregarded the party’s constitution and the rule of law. The SWC, inaugurated after the 2022 State Congress, had a valid tenure until April 2026. This illegal action was challenged in court, resulting in a victory for the SDP and the reinstatement of the legitimate SWC under Idris’s leadership. The Kaduna State High Court, in Suit No. KDH/Z/280/2025, ruled in favor of the elected SWC, affirming the importance of democratic processes and upholding the rule of law. This legal victory was hailed as a triumph not only for the SDP members but also for democracy itself.

Idris expressed concern over the increasing attempts by political figures with no prior affiliation to the SDP to infiltrate the party. He alleged that these individuals, some of whom recently left public office, were attempting to manipulate the party structure for their own selfish interests. He unequivocally stated that the SDP in Kaduna was not a platform for such political maneuvering and that the party was focused on building a principled and people-centered platform, not a vehicle for self-serving political reinvention. While welcoming new members, Idris stressed the importance of aligning with the SDP’s ideology and respecting the party’s constitution and established leadership structures. New members must embrace the party’s core values and recognize the existing, legally sanctioned leadership.

With a by-election on the horizon, Idris issued a stern warning to potential aspirants and party members to avoid engaging with unauthorized groups or parallel structures. He emphasized that all electoral processes, including the distribution of nomination forms, would be handled exclusively by the legitimate SWC. Any candidate engaging with unauthorized individuals or parallel structures would be doing so at their own peril. This reinforces the party’s commitment to following due process and maintaining internal order.

Idris pledged the Kaduna State chapter’s unwavering loyalty to the current national leadership of the SDP, under Acting National Chairman, Prof. Sadiq Umar, and National Secretary, Dr. Olu Ogunloye. He commended their steadfast commitment to upholding justice, constitutional order, and internal democracy within the party. This demonstrates the unity and cohesion within the SDP, from the state level to the national leadership.

The SDP in Kaduna State reaffirmed its commitment to championing justice, equity, accountability, and genuine progress, not just within the state, but throughout Nigeria. The party aims to offer a credible alternative to the existing political landscape and to provide a platform for real change. Idris reiterated the party’s vision of offering a viable alternative to the people of Kaduna State and Nigeria, emphasizing their commitment to providing a genuine platform for positive change. This vision underscores the SDP’s dedication to offering a fresh perspective and a commitment to the betterment of the nation.
