The Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has initiated preparations for the upcoming Sallah Durbar Celebration, a vibrant and cherished tradition in the state. He has directed all four emirates – Kano, Karaye, Rano, and Gaya – to commence arrangements to ensure a spectacular and enjoyable festive period for both residents and visitors. This directive underscores the governor’s commitment to upholding cultural heritage and fostering unity among the people of Kano State. The Sallah Durbar, a colorful procession of horse riders and dignitaries, is a deeply ingrained aspect of the Eid celebrations, symbolizing the rich history and traditions of the region.

Governor Yusuf’s directive highlights the significance of the Durbar as a cultural expression and a source of collective pride for the people of Kano. He emphasized the importance of preserving this tradition, recognizing the public’s eager anticipation of the festivities, from donning new attire to witnessing the majestic procession of Emirs on horseback. He reassured the public of his administration’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding this right and ensuring that no adversarial forces disrupt the celebration. This commitment speaks to the governor’s recognition of the Durbar’s cultural significance and its role in fostering community spirit. He pledged to deploy all necessary security measures to guarantee the safety and well-being of all participants and attendees, demonstrating a proactive approach to maintaining peace and order during the festivities.

Adding to the preparations for the upcoming festivities, Governor Yusuf also announced the forthcoming inauguration of the Kano State Emirate Council in April. This significant development aims to formalize the council’s structure and enhance its operational efficiency. The council plays a crucial role in preserving cultural heritage, promoting traditional values, and advising the government on matters related to the emirates. The governor’s decision to inaugurate the council reflects his administration’s commitment to strengthening traditional institutions and recognizing their importance in governance and societal development.

The inauguration of the council is expected to provide a framework for its operations, including guidelines, ethics, and other essential components that will guide its functions. This structured approach aims to ensure transparency, accountability, and effective collaboration within the council. By establishing clear protocols and guidelines, the governor aims to promote good governance and ensure that the council effectively serves the interests of the emirates and the people of Kano State. This initiative signifies a move towards modernizing traditional institutions while respecting their historical and cultural significance.

During a Ramadan breakfast meeting with the Emirs at the Government House, Kano, Governor Yusuf commended their demonstrated maturity and positive relationship, highlighting the unprecedented level of mutual respect and hierarchical adherence observed among them. This harmonious coexistence marks a significant milestone in the state’s history, reflecting the shared commitment of the Emirs to upholding the traditions and values of their respective emirates. Their collaborative spirit sets a positive example for the wider community, emphasizing the importance of unity and cooperation in achieving shared goals.

The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, Chairman of the Kano Emirate Council, affirmed the cordial relationship between himself and the other Emirs – Emir of Karaye, Muhammad Muhammad Maharaz; Emir of Rano, Amb. Muhammad Isa Umaru; and Emir of Gaya, Dr. Aliyu Ibrahim Abdulkadir. He appealed to Governor Yusuf to utilize the influence and reach of traditional institutions for effective dissemination of government policies and programs to the grassroots level. This strategic approach would leverage the established trust and respect that communities have for their traditional leaders, ensuring smoother and more impactful implementation of government initiatives.

The Emirs of Karaye, Rano, and Gaya, speaking on behalf of their people, expressed their gratitude to Governor Yusuf for the provision of fertilizer and the ongoing infrastructural developments in their respective emirates. They highlighted improvements in crucial sectors such as education, health, and road networks, demonstrating the tangible impact of the governor’s initiatives on the lives of their constituents.
