The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) has announced significant progress in the construction of the Engineering Materials and Equipment Development Institute (EMEDI) in Katsina State. This institute, a vital component of NASENI’s nationwide infrastructure development initiative, has reached 80% completion, marking a crucial step towards boosting local technological advancement and economic growth. A recent visit by NASENI’s Monitoring and Evaluation Committee confirmed the advanced stage of construction, with key structures like the administrative block, production and assembling workshop, gatehouse, and perimeter fence either nearing completion or fully constructed. This progress underscores NASENI’s commitment to equipping Nigeria with state-of-the-art facilities for research, development, and manufacturing in engineering materials and equipment. The EMEDI in Katsina State is strategically positioned to leverage the region’s abundant silica resources, transforming them into valuable products using modern techniques and tools.

In addition to the EMEDI project, the NASENI Monitoring and Evaluation team also assessed the progress of the NASENI Skills Acquisition Centre in Zangon Daura, Katsina State. This center, designed to empower youth with valuable technical skills, has also made significant strides, with the completion of the perimeter fence and administrative block. However, the team was briefed on security challenges facing the site, highlighting the need for enhanced security measures to protect the facility and ensure the safety of personnel and equipment. Addressing these security concerns will be crucial for the successful operation of the center and the realization of its objectives. The team’s visit underscores NASENI’s commitment not only to infrastructure development but also to creating a secure and conducive learning environment for the trainees.
