Kwara State University Elevates Faculty Members to Professorial Ranks

The Governing Council of Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, has significantly bolstered its academic ranks by promoting three distinguished lecturers to the esteemed position of professor and elevating an additional 25 lecturers to the rank of associate professor. This momentous decision, ratified during the council’s 73rd meeting, underscores KWASU’s commitment to recognizing and rewarding academic excellence within its faculty. The newly appointed professors represent a diverse range of disciplines, spanning Agriculture, Arts, and Education, enriching the university’s intellectual landscape.

Leading the cohort of newly appointed professors is Professor Shehu Salau, whose expertise lies in Agricultural Production Economics. His contributions to the field promise to further enhance KWASU’s agricultural programs and research initiatives. Joining him are Professor Moshood Zakariyah, a specialist in Sociolinguistics, and Professor Olayiwola Olorisade, whose area of expertise is Educational Administration. Their combined expertise strengthens KWASU’s standing in the humanities and social sciences, contributing to a well-rounded academic environment.

The promotions to associate professor encompass a broader spectrum of disciplines, reflecting the university’s multidisciplinary approach to education and research. The Faculty of Agriculture sees the elevation of Latifat Olatinwo and Felicia Olooto, both specializing in Agricultural Extension and Rural Development, along with Dr. Olarinke Adeniyi in Aquaculture Management, Adebayo Ojo in Entomology, and Dr. Akeem Raji in Food Processing Technology. These appointments strengthen KWASU’s agricultural research and teaching capacity, addressing critical areas within the field.

Within the Faculty of Arts, five lecturers have been promoted to associate professor: Yahya Muritala (Arabic Syntax, Modern Arabic Linguistics, and Translation), Yunusa Jamiu (Modern Arabic Literature), Oluwatayo Adeoti (Pragmatics and Discourse Studies), Sherifat Hussain-Abubakar (Islamic Family Law and Gender Studies), and Dr. Khalid Bello (Islamic Economics). These promotions reflect KWASU’s dedication to promoting a comprehensive understanding of language, literature, and cultural studies, particularly within the context of Islamic scholarship.

The Faculty of Engineering sees the elevation of Olalekan Ogunbiyi (Power System and Automatic Control Engineering), Rasheed Amao Busari (Farm Power and Machinery), and Olufemi Oladosu (Production and Renewable Energy). These appointments recognize the increasing importance of engineering and technology in addressing contemporary challenges related to power systems and sustainable energy solutions.

In other faculties, Usman Saadu (Educational Psychology) from the Faculty of Education and Ronke Babatunde (Machine Learning and AI) from the Faculty of Information and Communication Technology have been promoted. These appointments highlight KWASU’s commitment to advancing knowledge in crucial areas of education and the rapidly evolving field of artificial intelligence.

The Faculty of Law sees the promotion of Olariyike Akintoye and Abdullahi Ishola, specializing in Property and Business Law and Islamic Law, respectively. Their expertise strengthens KWASU’s legal studies program, offering students a deeper understanding of both domestic and international legal frameworks.

Within the Faculty of Management and Social Sciences, Abdullahi Alabi (Comparative Politics and Administration), Idris Mohammed (Development Studies and Local Government Administration), and Ibrahim Salawu (Public Policy and Governance) achieved the rank of associate professor. These promotions underscore KWASU’s commitment to fostering expertise in governance, public policy, and development studies, equipping students to address complex societal challenges.

Finally, the Faculty of Pure and Applied Sciences sees the elevation of Anyachukwu Irondi (Food and Nutritional Biochemistry), Dr. Abdulazeez Jimoh (Numerical Analysis and Computational Mathematics), Kazeem Issa (Numerical Analysis), Dr. Wasiu Yahya (Theoretical and Computational Physics), and Abiodun Obembe (Entomology). These promotions reflect KWASU’s dedication to advancing scientific knowledge and research across a range of disciplines, from biochemistry and mathematics to physics and entomology.
