Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) recently welcomed 3,944 new students into its fold for the 2024-2025 academic session, marking the commencement of their academic journey. During the matriculation ceremony, the Rector, Dr. Babatunde Jolaoso, delivered a resounding message emphasizing the institution’s commitment to academic excellence and character development, while also cautioning against vices that could jeopardize their future prospects. He stressed the importance of shunning cultism, indecent dressing, examination malpractice, and other antisocial behaviours, highlighting the institution’s zero-tolerance policy towards such acts.

Dr. Jolaoso underscored the significance of matriculation as a formal induction into the polytechnic community and the beginning of a transformative experience towards achieving lifelong dreams. He urged the students to prioritize not just academics but also the cultivation of strong character and valuable skills, reminding them that their actions reflect not only on themselves but also on the institution and their families. He emphasized the need for wise associations, cautioning against accepting unsolicited assistance from unknown sources and encouraging engagement in productive and reputable activities.

The Rector highlighted the institution’s legacy of producing graduates who excel in diverse fields, from academia and industry to private enterprise. He reiterated MAPOLY’s commitment to equipping students with practical, hands-on experience, fostering skills development, and leveraging technology to enhance learning. Dr. Jolaoso also announced the launch of the Polytechnic Radio on 99.7 FM, a platform designed to train and nurture students while also serving the wider community through information, education, and entertainment. This radio station stands as a testament to MAPOLY’s commitment to innovation and community engagement.

Echoing the Rector’s sentiments, the Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, affirmed the government’s dedication to creating an educational environment that fosters innovation, entrepreneurship, and relevance in today’s dynamic world. He acknowledged the crucial role of institutions like MAPOLY in empowering young minds with the necessary knowledge and skills to contribute meaningfully to national development. Prof. Arigbabu urged the matriculating students to embrace the values of discipline, integrity, and diligence, stressing that success in the 21st century demands not only academic qualifications but also strong character, creativity, and a commitment to lifelong learning.
