The 2024 edition of the Ships & Ports Maritime Cup competition is set to commence on October 15, featuring an exciting opening match between the defending champions, Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), and the 2010 winners, Micura Stevedoring Services. This competition stands as Nigeria’s premier maritime sporting event, organized by Ships & Ports Communication Company, a leading maritime public relations and media firm. Renowned for bringing together top-tier companies and government agencies from both the private and public sectors, the tournament draws attention within the maritime community as a significant highlight of the year.

The competition, now in its 15th year, will run until November 6 and will see fierce contests among participating teams. FIFA badge referees from the Lagos State Referees Council will officiate all matches, emphasizing the high standards maintained throughout the event. Teams are divided into three groups, with Group A featuring 2009 champions Nigerian Navy, Apapa Bulk Terminal Limited (ABTL), the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), and 2019 champions ENL Consortium Limited. Meanwhile, Group B comprises five-time champions Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), APM Terminals, the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, and Comet Shipping Agencies Nigeria. The competition will see intense rivalries, with each team vying for the prestigious trophy.

Bolaji Akinola, CEO of Ships & Ports Communication Company, has noted the importance of this contest to the Nigerian maritime sector.
