Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has underscored the importance of expediting the construction of the Ekeremor-Agge road, a critical infrastructure project in the state. During an inspection visit, Governor Diri urged both the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure and the contracting firms involved, Pelfaco Limited and Lubrik Construction Company, to accelerate their efforts to ensure the project’s timely completion. The Governor’s commitment to finishing the project before the end of his term in February 2028 reflects his administration’s dedication to infrastructural development and improving connectivity within the state. The Ekeremor-Agge road project is envisioned to significantly enhance transportation and access for communities in the region.
The first phase of the Ekeremor-Agge road project spans 27.8 kilometers and is slated for completion within 24 months. This initial phase focuses on connecting Ekeremor town, the administrative center of Ekeremor Local Government Area, to Ndoro community, with an additional spur leading to Peretorugbene. However, progress has been slower than anticipated, with only about seven kilometers of the road currently sand-filled. Governor Diri emphasized the need to adhere to the project timeline and urged the involved parties to intensify their efforts to meet the set deadlines. The successful completion of this first phase is considered crucial, paving the way for future development and extension of the road network.
Governor Diri’s commitment to the Ekeremor-Agge road project stems from his broader vision of leaving a lasting legacy of infrastructural development in Bayelsa State. He aims to complete all initiated projects before his tenure concludes, ensuring that subsequent administrations can build upon the foundation laid. The Governor’s proactive approach underscores his dedication to delivering tangible benefits to the people of Bayelsa State and fostering sustainable development. The completion of the Ekeremor-Agge road is expected to stimulate economic activities, improve access to essential services, and enhance the overall quality of life for the communities it connects.
Initially, Governor Diri planned to inaugurate the completed Sagbama-Ekeremor road section and subsequently collaborate with the Federal Government to extend the road to Agge. However, delays in inaugurating the Sagbama-Ekeremor segment prompted the state government to initiate the Ekeremor-Agge road project independently. This proactive decision demonstrates the Governor’s commitment to progress and his willingness to adapt strategies to overcome challenges. The Ekeremor-Agge road is not only a testament to the state government’s commitment to infrastructural development but also reflects its adaptability in navigating unforeseen circumstances to ensure project continuity.
The Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Surveyor Moses Teibowei, expressed confidence in meeting the two-year timeline for the project’s completion. He noted that the contractors have been adequately mobilized and that significant progress has been made in sand-filling operations. The next phase of the project will involve the commencement of main construction work alongside the construction of two key bridges – an 80-meter bridge to Ndoro and a 150-meter bridge to Peretorugbene. These bridges are critical components of the project, facilitating connectivity and overcoming geographical obstacles.
Representing Pelfaco Limited, Mr. Kazeem Ajala assured that the ongoing clearing and sand-filling activities in Ndoro are on track for completion by April of the following year. He emphasized that the road is being filled to a height of approximately 2.4 meters to mitigate flooding concerns. Mr. Ajala further expressed the company’s commitment to adhering to contract specifications and delivering a high-quality road, highlighting the state government’s adequate funding as a crucial factor in ensuring project success. The collaborative efforts of the state government and the contracting firms are essential for the successful realization of the Ekeremor-Agge road project and its positive impact on the communities it serves.
