In Dumasua, a farming community within the Sunyani West Municipality of the Bono region in Ghana, an economic improvement skills training program has been implemented to address local poverty and empower youth. The initiative, organized by the Give to Life Charity Foundation in collaboration with Nana Ayebiafo Jnana, the Nkosuohene (Sub-Chief) of Dumasua, alongside the G2 Foundation, aimed to equip over 300 young men and women with valuable skills. The three-day training offered a wide range of practical skills, including satellite installation, bridal fan and fascinator creation, as well as the production of various household products such as soaps, shower gel, shampoo, and detergents. Additionally, participants learned to create baked goods including biscuits, cakes, fresh yoghurt, chips, and brown sugar.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Give to Life Charity Foundation, Mrs. Lady Dorcas Dadzie, reiterated the program’s anticipated outcomes during the training. She emphasized that the goal was to enable participants to develop their own trades, become self-employed, and achieve self-reliance. The initiative is also designed to combat prevalent issues such as poverty and teenage pregnancy within the community, aiming to foster financial independence among the youth, thus empowering them to contribute positively rather than becoming societal burdens. This empowerment approach is vital for creating sustainable change in the socio-economic landscape of Dumasua.
Madam Helena Kankam, the Public Relations Officer for the organization, highlighted the Foundation’s commitment to supporting vulnerable groups, particularly women, youth, and children in deprived environments across Ghana. She stressed their mission of enhancing the livelihoods of these demographics, with a particular focus on empowering the girl-child in underprivileged areas. The Foundation aims to provide comprehensive academic resources and skill-building opportunities that enable these individuals to reach their fullest potential and improve their societal contributions, thus addressing both immediate needs and long-term developmental goals.
To facilitate sustainable growth and business development, the Foundation offers a complete skill-training package that ensures participants are well-equipped to pursue their entrepreneurial ambitions. This includes not only the acquisition of practical skills but also assistance with business startups. By targeting beneficiaries across the country, the Foundation aims to empower individuals to achieve self-sufficiency and contribute to community-based development projects, fostering an environment conducive to economic growth and social progress.
The training initiative received acknowledgement from Mrs. Gifty Nyarko, CEO of the G2 Foundation, who described it as a pivotal intervention for both women and the youth in Dumasua and surrounding areas. She emphasized that the program welcomed participation not only from local residents but also from individuals across the Municipality and beyond, resulting in a broader community impact. The holistic nature of this training program reflects a collective effort to create a supportive ecosystem for development and improvement in living standards for those engaged.
In support of this community-centered initiative, Nana Jnana expressed his steadfast commitment to the overall well-being and development of Dumasua’s residents. By endorsing this training program, he aims to ensure that community members gain the skills necessary for self-sustainability, thus positioning themselves as contributors to national development. Furthermore, to bolster the participants’ entrepreneurial ventures, the chief announced that they would receive startup support packages, paving the way for them to establish their businesses successfully and promote economic resilience in their community.
