The MTN Ghana Foundation has recently transformed the Wiamoase Diaspora Public Library by establishing a state-of-the-art robotics and ICT center equipped with advanced technology aimed at enhancing learning within the community. The center’s inauguration took place on November 26, 2024, and was attended by representatives from the MTN Ghana Foundation alongside local traditional leaders. Designed as a resource hub, this center is furnished with essential tools including robotics equipment, laptops, desktop computers, and artificial intelligence (AI) tools, thereby providing a platform for community members, especially students, to acquire critical skills in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education.

The center underscores a broader mission to promote access to technology and internet resources for all residents in Wiamoase. With a diverse range of digital skills training programs available—from basic computer literacy to advanced programming and robotics—the center aims to bridge technological gaps within the community. Additionally, local entrepreneurs will benefit from training that helps them develop robust digital business strategies. Providing a collaborative workspace, the facility not only serves students but also professionals and innovators, fostering a dynamic environment for knowledge sharing and creativity.

The Wiamoase Diaspora Public Library, established by expatriates from the town, has strategically positioned this ICT center as a key contributor to STEM education. The concept is to empower students with the technological prowess needed to tackle real-world challenges through innovative thinking patterns. This aligns with the foundation’s strategic objectives, which encompass education, health, and economic empowerment as primary focus areas. Senior Manager Robert Kuzoe emphasized the collaborative spirit of the initiative, which mirrors similar projects previously launched at locations such as the Mamfe Robotics Center and Dansoman community library, indicating a commitment to nurturing a tech-savvy generation across Ghana.

During the inauguration, Wiamoase’s Chief, Nana Boakye Yiadom, expressed profound gratitude towards MTN Ghana for their dedication to community development. He urged community members, particularly students, to utilize the resources available at the center effectively, while also ensuring the facility is well-maintained for future use. This aspect of ownership and stewardship is essential for sustainable utilization of the resources made available to them, enabling ongoing development within the community.

Supportive voices from educational authorities also resonated during the commission. Mr. Prince Owusu-Ansah, the Municipal Education Director for Sekyere South, acknowledged the profound impact such initiatives will have on equipping students for success in the increasingly digital global marketplace. The importance of technology literacy in today’s world cannot be overstated, and such facilities are vital in preparing young individuals for competitive realities they will encounter in higher education and their careers.

Dr. Daniel Kwame Apau, who chairs the Wiamoase Citizens in the Diaspora, articulated an overarching vision of eliminating digital barriers and fostering opportunities for growth. He noted that the center serves as a vital launchpad, not just for students seeking to enhance their STEM education, but also for professionals looking to amplify their skills and entrepreneurs aiming to innovate. Through this initiative, the MTN Ghana Foundation not only aims to combat unemployment and stimulate local economic growth but also ensures inclusivity in the ongoing digital revolution, striving to leave no one behind in these transformative times.
