The MTN Ghana Foundation has officially opened nominations for the seventh edition of its flagship initiative, MTN Heroes of Change, as announced during its launch event on September 4th. This program invites members of the public to nominate individuals who have demonstrated exceptional commitment and selflessness in improving their communities. Nominations can be submitted via the online platform at www.heroes.mtn.com.gh or through a video sent to a specified WhatsApp number. The initiative seeks to spotlight and honor individuals and organizations that have dedicated their time and resources to enhance the lives of people in areas critical to societal development, namely education, health, and economic empowerment.
This year, the MTN Heroes of Change program has expanded its scope by introducing two new categories: Digital Hero and Media Hero of Change. These additional categories recognize individuals who use technology and media platforms effectively to create positive impacts in their communities. This innovation is in line with MTN’s strategic objective of providing digital solutions that foster progress and transformation. By incorporating these categories, the initiative reflects the evolving landscape of social impact, where digital and media literacy play pivotal roles in community development.
Adwoa Afriyie Wiafe, the Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer at MTN Ghana, emphasized the significance of the Heroes of Change program. She highlighted that it embodies the extraordinary contributions of local individuals who align with MTN’s vision of “making lives brighter together.” Wiafe expressed the belief that this initiative reveals the potential of ordinary people to instigate significant change within society through their selfless endeavors. By bringing to light these hidden heroes, the program aims to not only affirm their efforts but also to inspire broader participation in community-focused actions.
As the nomination period gets underway, communities have already begun submitting potential candidates for recognition. Once the deadline for nominations passes, a rigorous selection process will occur to narrow down the submissions to a shortlist of ten finalists. The personal stories and impactful contributions of these ten will be documented and showcased in a television series that spans 13 weeks. This approach not only celebrates the individuals but also serves to educate and motivate viewers regarding the profound impact of charitable actions.
The ultimate Hero of Change will be rewarded with a significant cash prize of GHc100,000, while the other finalists will each receive GHc50,000 as a token of appreciation for their contributions. Furthermore, nominators who successfully advocate for a candidate that makes it into the top ten will be rewarded with a monetary prize of GHc5,000. This incentivization not only encourages community members to recognize and support local heroes but also enhances overall engagement with the program.
Ultimately, the MTN Heroes of Change initiative aspires to motivate Ghanaians, particularly the youth, to take proactive steps in improving their communities. By celebrating these local champions, MTN Ghana Foundation aims to foster a culture of altruism and community spirit, inspiring individuals to pursue projects and initiatives that lead to meaningful societal change. Through such recognition and support, the foundation hopes to nurture a vibrant ecosystem of change-makers dedicated to enhancing the well-being of their communities.
