MTN Ghana’s Northern Business District commemorated a significant milestone with a lavish dinner and awards night at the Golden Bean Hotel in Kumasi on November 30, 2024, celebrating 15 years of Mobile Money (MoMo) services in the country. This event, attended by key stakeholders and celebrated figures, aimed to honor the outstanding partners, agents, and merchants from the Ashanti, Ahafo, Bono East, and Bono regions for their exceptional contributions to the growth and development of MTN MoMo. As one of the flagship fintech services in Ghana, MoMo has transformed the financial landscape, making transactions more accessible for millions of Ghanaians and fostering economic growth in the various regions.

The awards night recognized top performers from each region, showcasing their remarkable achievements within the MTN MoMo ecosystem. In the Ashanti Region, Franko Prestige Ventures secured the top position, receiving a cash prize of GH₵20,000 and a new motorbike. Osuani Boakye Ventures and Amegble Enterprise followed, demonstrating the competitive spirit and dedication of the agents. Similarly, the Ahafo Region saw Ernestina Ultimate Venture topping the list, alongside Baba Sule Ventures and Brother’s 04 Ventures, further exemplifying the commitment of local businesses to the MoMo framework. The Bono East and Bono Regions highlighted the effectiveness of MTN MoMo agents through EMRYS Ventures and Hanpok 88 Enterprise, respectively, emphasizing the essential role these agents play in driving the growth of mobile financial services.

In a particularly celebratory tone, the event also recognized Francis Osei, CEO of Franko Prestige Ventures, as the top agent for the Northern Business District and presented him with a prestigious overall award. This accolade included another GH₵20,000, a new motorbike, and a commemorative plaque, marking Osei’s incredible achievements in the mobile money sphere. Making a heartfelt speech, he expressed his gratitude towards MTN Mobile Money Limited for guiding his career from humble beginnings. Osei highlighted the challenges and opportunities he had encountered throughout his journey, which paved the way for his success and recognition as the Best MoMo Agent in 2019.

Nii Adotey Mingle, the General Manager for the Northern Business District, addressed the audience with a compelling overview of MTN MoMo’s transformative impact on Ghana’s fintech landscape. He articulated how MoMo has been pivotal in generating direct and indirect employment opportunities, enhancing government revenue through taxation, and promoting digital entrepreneurship. Mingle’s outlook reflected a deep understanding of the broader implications of financial inclusion, emphasizing that more accessible financial services have empowered many individuals and businesses in underserved communities.
