These accusations were levelled by Henry Okunomu, who falsely claimed to be a former Senate President of NANS. The student body, in a statement issued by its National Public Relations Officer, Adeyemi Ajasa, categorically denied Okunomu’s claims, labelling them as baseless fabrications aimed at tarnishing the organization’s image. NANS clarified that Okunomu had never held any leadership position within the association and cautioned the public and media against being misled by such impostors.
Okunomu’s allegations, aired on Channels Television, centered on the increasing influence of political figures in NANS, suggesting that the organization had deviated from its core mission of student advocacy and succumbed to political patronage. He specifically pointed fingers at Seyi Tinubu, accusing him of meddling in NANS’ internal affairs. Okunomu questioned Tinubu’s motives and the potential benefits he sought from his involvement with the student union.
