A Legacy of Service and Advocacy: Remembering Dr. Bernice Adiku-Heloo

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the people of Hohoe Constituency mourn the passing of Dr. Bernice Adiku-Heloo, a distinguished public servant, advocate, and former Member of Parliament. Dr. Adiku-Heloo, who served as MP for the constituency from 2013 to 2021, passed away on Christmas Day, December 25, 2024, at the age of 70. Her death marks the end of a remarkable career dedicated to improving the lives of her constituents and advocating for critical social issues.

Throughout her tenure as MP, Dr. Adiku-Heloo championed women’s rights, education, and healthcare, leaving an indelible mark on the communities she served. She was a passionate advocate for empowering marginalized communities, particularly women and girls, and her work as the founder of Prolink, an NGO dedicated to this cause, reflects her unwavering commitment. Beyond her parliamentary duties, she also served as Deputy Minister of Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation under President John Dramani Mahama, further demonstrating her dedication to public service.

Dr. Adiku-Heloo’s academic achievements were as impressive as her political career. A product of Mawuli School and OLA Senior High School, she furthered her education at the University of Ghana, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts degree and an MPhil in Adult Education. Her thirst for knowledge took her to the University of Manchester, where she earned an M.E.D. in Literacy for Rural Development, culminating in a Doctorate from the Swiss Management Centre University. These accomplishments underscored her belief in the power of education and its transformative potential.

Her political career was marked by a steadfast dedication to the NDC and its principles. She was a respected figure within the party, known for her commitment to social justice and her unwavering support for the people of Hohoe Constituency. Her passing leaves a void within the party and the community, as she was not only a leader but also a mentor and inspiration to many.

The NDC, in a statement released by Constituency Secretary Prosper Kumi, expressed their deep condolences to the family and the party fraternity.
