Ghana’s 2025 Certificate II Examinations: A Milestone in Technical and Vocational Education and Training
The Commission for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (CTVET) in Ghana is gearing up for the 2025 Certificate II Examinations, a significant event in the nation’s educational calendar. Scheduled to take place from June 30 to July 28, 2025, the examinations will assess the skills and knowledge of over 55,000 candidates across the country. This year’s examination cycle reflects a growing national commitment to technical and vocational education, with increasing numbers of students and parents recognizing TVET as a viable pathway to both further education and promising career opportunities. The examinations serve as a crucial benchmark in Ghana’s ongoing efforts to cultivate a skilled, competent, and confident workforce, essential for the nation’s socio-economic development.
The examination period will be divided into two phases: the Core Subjects examinations from June 30 to July 7, followed by the Elective Subjects examinations from July 14 to July 28. This structured approach allows for a comprehensive assessment of candidates’ proficiency in both foundational and specialized areas within their chosen fields of study. The substantial number of candidates, comprising over 40,000 males and nearly 15,000 females, highlights the increasing inclusivity and appeal of TVET programs across gender lines. This growing participation underscores the success of Ghana’s efforts to promote equitable access to quality technical and vocational education for all.
Mr. Zakaria Suleman, the Director General of CTVET, emphasized the significance of these examinations, not just as a procedural requirement, but as a national milestone showcasing Ghana’s progress in building a robust and skilled workforce. He highlighted the rising confidence in the TVET system, both among students and parents, who are increasingly viewing it as a credible and dignified path to employment and further educational pursuits. This growing trust reflects the positive impact of continuous investments and reforms within the TVET sector, aimed at enhancing the quality and relevance of training programs to meet the evolving needs of the job market.
Mr. Suleman commended the students, instructors, school administrators, parents, and industry stakeholders for their collective efforts in preparing for these crucial examinations. He acknowledged the collaborative nature of TVET, emphasizing that the successes achieved are a result of shared responsibility and sustained investment in human capital development. This collaborative spirit is essential for ensuring that TVET programs remain aligned with industry demands and produce graduates equipped with the skills and knowledge required to thrive in the modern workplace. The Director General’s words of encouragement and recognition serve to motivate all involved in the TVET ecosystem.
Addressing concerns regarding the integrity and quality of the exams, Mr. Suleman assured the public of CTVET’s unwavering commitment to upholding the highest standards in examination administration. He acknowledged the importance of maintaining the credibility of these assessments, not only for the reputation of individual graduates but also for the overall integrity of the TVET system. The credibility of the examinations is vital for ensuring that TVET qualifications are recognized and valued by employers, both within Ghana and internationally.
To further enhance the fairness and security of the examination process, CTVET has implemented innovative reforms aimed at minimizing the risk of examination malpractice. These measures specifically target the circulation of leaked examination papers, often referred to as "apor," and the activities of social media scammers who disseminate fake materials. By implementing these measures, CTVET seeks to safeguard the validity of examination scores across all versions of the papers administered. This ensures that every candidate, regardless of the specific version of the test they take, receives a certificate of equal value and credibility, maintaining the integrity and equity of the entire assessment process. These robust measures demonstrate CTVET’s commitment to conducting fair and transparent examinations, further solidifying the reputation of TVET qualifications.
